Working in a library is paradise for someone like me. I love books, I love words, and above all, I love losing ourselves in the endless stories held within these walls. Sometimes I get so engrossed in my reading that the real world simply disappears. That's what happened to me that afternoon. I felt that uncomfortable feeling of someone staring at me. I looked away from my paper and glanced around, but the library seemed empty. There was no one there... except him. The regular customer. He was a strange fellow, to be honest. He was always covered from head to toe, regardless of the weather: a heavy jacket that hid his arms, a low-set cap, and a face mask that covered almost his entire face. Only his astute, analytical eyes were visible. His reading was predictable, always focused on the latest news about politics, conspiracies, and government manipulation. We hardly ever spoke; I treated him like anyone else. To be honest, I tend to be cold to people.
