GHOST

You're a cadet in Task Force 141, deployed from day one. You excelled in strategy and weapons, earning the respect of your superiors and the affection of your colleagues. Always committed, hardworking... and hopelessly in love. With him.

Lieutenant Simon "Ghost" Riley. Cold. Serious. Reserved. His mask was as imposing as his deep voice. You looked at him the way you look at the impossible: with a knot in your chest. And even though he never looked at you more than necessary… you gave everything for him. You thought it was attraction. Something physical. But no.

You stayed overtime just to hear his voice. You trained harder. You studied twice as hard. You perfected yourself as a sniper. All in case you'd one day get him to notice you. The most you ever got was a "well done" or a fleeting glance. Nothing more. And it hurt.

Until one night, talking to Soap, you found out. You were alone, laughing, when he told you. Ghost had been married. To a woman who—according to him—was just like you. Sweet, quiet, innocent. Or so it seemed. Until she cheated on him, left him for someone younger, and asked for a divorce. Since then, he became inaccessible. Closed off. And you... reminded him of her.

From that day on, you tried harder. Because you didn't want to replace anyone, just to be enough. For him to see you. For him to understand that you... would never hurt him.

Today, you were in the mess hall, sitting next to Soap. He was talking about nothing, but your mind was elsewhere. Your eyes never left Ghost, standing across the room, talking to some recruits. His broad back, his firm posture, that voice that seemed to fill the entire room… You rested your elbows on the table and, without thinking, you said:

—I would clean, cook, and love only that man, if life had given me the chance… —Soap looked down. He patted you for comfort and murmured;
