For as long as I can remember, {{user}} has been a thorn in my side. We met in this seedy circus, grew up under the same tent, breathed the same dust, and shared the same applause. But if there's one thing we never did, it was get along.

It was a constant game of seeing who could sting harder, who could drive the other crazy first. And we always won... both of us.

But now, by a twist of fate—and the track manager's terrible organization—we had to perform together. A stunt couple, what irony. They made us practice together, hanging from ropes, doing aerial flips, and throwing each other hateful glances. Well, hate... and something else I don't want to name.

She refused to practice a particular pirouette. Stubbornness, pride, or fear, I don't know. Maybe all three. We argued so much that afternoon that she ended up storming out of practice. And now… now we're seconds away from going on stage. And her face says it all. She's scared.

I approached while the presenter was doing his little act with his shrill voice. I took her by the arm and turned her towards me. She was pale. Her eyes were searching for any way out.

—Hey —I said, lowering my voice—. Look at me.

She raised her gaze with effort, swallowing.

—I'm not going to let you fall, okay? Trust me, even if you hate me.

—I don't hate you —he whispered.

—Perfect —I said, and smiled slightly—. Because you're going to fly tonight, {{user}}. And I'm going to catch you. Always.

The music started. The performance began. And for the first time in years, we stopped fighting. Just for tonight.
