one-shot manga series and the 2024 movie adaptation of the same name. She is a young girl who is passionate about drawing manga and constantly praised for great drawing abilities. However, her world is irrevocably changed after a shut-in classmate submits a comic that greatly surpasses her drawing skills to the point where a friend that had once told her she undoubtedly had the skills to be a professional Mangaka referred to her work as "average". This humbling event shook her to her core, as the widespread praise and attention of her art made her think of herself as "special". In response she becomes intensely motivated to surpass the other artist sets out to improve her skills. This eventually brings her to the rival artist herself, Kyomoto, a shut-in that refuses to attend school in person due to severe social-anxiety. After the rival reveals she is actually a die hard fan of her comics The two go on to form a profoundly deep "friendship" that changes their lives forever. In short there are two timelines and they are on the first one.

Externally Ayumu is friendly & gregarious, with a calm, cool, confident but humble personality. Internally however, she is shown to be insecure, petty and prideful, which can cause her to lash out in small petty passive aggressive-ways such as referring to Kyomoto as lame for never leaving her house & drawing a comic to mock Kyomoto because the girls superior drawing skills made her jealous. When her rival-turned-best-friend Kyomoto admitted she would not be joining her in making their professional manga series as she wanted to receive a formal education in art, she pretended it was no big deal and seemingly encouraged her to go but, also mentioned it would probably be boring. As the discussion continued her cool veneer broke down and she lashed out by claiming Kyomoto would undoubtedly fail as her intense social anxiety would make it impossible for her to live on her own or even talk to teachers. In reality she was deeply hurt and upset her friend was leaving her, and refused to speak with her again leading to their estrangement.

However when Kyomoto was murdered in the original timeline she was devastated beyond belief despite their years apart. In her grief she put her popular comic on an indefinite hiatus even considering quitting the industry as her reason for making comics was ultimately just to make her friend happy and even blamed herself for Kyomoto's death believing that because she was the one that encouraged Kyomoto to leave her room, she put her in the position to be killed in a unstable man's brutal attack on the school Kyomoto was attending at the time, showing that despite their years apart she still cared for her friend deeply.

She shows a tendency to give up, runaway, or pretend she doesn't care when things become truly upsetting for her such as when she ran out of Kyomoto's house in shame for making a mocking comic about the shut-in, and quitting drawing when she sees that despite all her effort, Kyomoto has still surpassed her in drawing skills

She often hides behind a mask of indifference towards things she actually cares about in order to mask her pain, or simply look cool for others. She claimed she had put minimal effort into the highly praised comic she had drawn when in fact she had stayed up all night to make it perfect. When Kyomoto praised her comic she pretended to be thankful but indifferent to it when it actually filled her with such joy she skipped and danced all the way home in jubilation. She enjoys hearing compliments to the point where she is easily motivated if she is flattered as she immediately decided to pick up drawing again after hearing how much Kyomoto idolized her, both in the original and alternate timeline.

She is also stated be also good in sports, when she temporally quits drawing in the original timeline she is shown joining her sister at Karate which she takes to quite well, while in the alternate timeline, where she never resumed drawing, she continued with karate to the point where she was able catch up to Kyomoto's would be killer and easily defeat him (alibiet breaking her own leg in the process after throwing an overly enthusiastic kick) saving Kyomoto's life.

Despite her prideful and selfish tendencies she is, at heart, an incredibly diligent and hardworking girl who cares for her friends deeply. After being humbled by Kyomoto's art being better than hers she immediately ran home and began working night and day to improve, to the point where her personal relationships began to suffer. When Kyomoto and she became friends and started making manga together, she is shown taking Kyomoto out and encouraging her to have take part in the world and socialize helping her through her anxiety.

In the alternate timeline where she abandoned drawing for karate she is shown to still have her cocky & confident personality but it has evened out considerably; when explaining how she had stopped Kyomoto from being killed she admires she wanted to be a bad-ass hero but is genuinely humble compared to her youthful humble bragging, laughing and calling herself lame for breaking her own leg during her heroic rescue. She also happily gives an awkward and stuttering Kyomoto (who she has never met in this timeline) her phone number so they can stay in touch, and was shown to have gotten over her jealousy when Kyomoto unintetionally revealed herself to be the catalyst for Ayumu to quit drawing when she revealed she was a fan of her elementary comics. The alternate Ayumu even told the alternate Kyomoto to come work with her when she becomes a famous mangaka after she decides to resume drawing.
