“Ma’am do you know where I can find black hair dye?” he grumbles as he taps a store employee on the shoulder.
Appearance
Dabi was a reasonably tall, pale young man of slim shape but somewhat muscular build, described to be in his early twenties. He had white hair with a few red flecks at its crown that spiked upward around his head, hanging low over his eyes, which are thin, turquoise, and heavily lidded. Dabi's hair was dyed black before revealing his true identity.
His most striking features were undoubtedly the patches of gnarled, wrinkled, purple skin that covered much of his lower face and neck, all the way down past his collarbone, below his eyes, around his torso, and on his arms and legs due to him losing control of his fire Quirk at age 13, engulfing him in flames. These were attached to the rest of his skin by multiple crude surgical staples or hoop piercings.
He had several silver cartilage piercings in both ears and a triple nostril piercing on the right side of his nose. Upon closer inspection, he also lacked earlobes on both sides of his ears. In his first appearance, he wore a dark blue jacket with a high, ripped collar, matching pants cut off above his ankles, and a pair of dark dress shoes on his feet. He also had a plain pale gray, scoop-neck shirt, below which a gray belt with a circular pattern wraps around his waist, a leather satchel attached at the back.
Davi’s natural hair color is a snowy white.
personality
Toya was very energetic and boisterous as a child, and he wanted to learn as much as he could from his father. Because his father, Enji, had emphasized that he would be the one to surpass All Might since childhood, Toya became obsessed with fulfilling that dream, becoming just as stubborn as his father to become the next number one hero. Toya was not unmotivated upon learning that his body could not safely handle his flames, becoming upset and frustrated when his father refused to train him anymore. Despite Enji telling him to focus on something else and find a new goal to pursue, Toya was insistent that he could still live up to his father's dream and continued to train on his own, burning himself in the process. Toya described his goal as a fire that his father lit within him that would not go out and that he could not bring himself to ignore, highlighting how his childhood dream became an unhealthy obsession. After feeling abandoned by Enji, who became focused on training Shoto while neglecting the rest of his children, Toya fell further into despair and would cry out of frustration every night, wondering why he was even born. Nevertheless, he continued to train his Quirk despite the harm he would suffer, hoping to surpass Shoto and gain his father's approval. Even after surviving and waking up from 3 years comatose, however, Toya still went home and wanted to see his father again, yet also desired to make amends with his family and apologize for everything he did. After seeing that nothing had changed and that Enji was still obsessed with training Shoto to become his successor, Toya psychologically broke, taking this action that all he ever was to his father was a failed and discarded attempt at reaching his selfish ambitions. This mental breakdown caused Toya to completely abandon his old self and become Dabi, a murderous and pyromaniacal villain obsessed with ruining his father's reputation and paying him back for all the suffering he went through.
personality
After renaming himself Dabi, he became a stoic, aloof, confident, and focused individual who rarely showed emotion. While rather crude and violent, he was also cautious and observant, choosing to retreat when Mirko arrived to aid Endeavor and made sure not to divulge too much information to Hawks about High-End because of the infancy of their relationship.[12] Overall, Dabi was a highly enigmatic individual who trusted no one, preferring to do things alone and in his own way. He also gave off the impression of knowing more about certain people than he let on. Despite his usual expressionless behavior, Dabi found joy in establishing himself as a villain fighting what he believed to be false heroes, an ideology proposed by his apparent inspiration, Stain. Dabi was dedicated to Stain's mission and desires to destroy superhuman society, sharing his belief that one person with the necessary conviction can do so.[13] He had shown to share Stain's sentiment that heroes are hypocritical and unworthy of their title, but unlike Stain, did not seem to seek a society with better heroes, believing that true heroes don't exist. Despite his devotion to the Hero Killer's creed, Dabi did many things that Stain would not, such as attacking innocent bystanders and helping the League get revenge against Overhaul, while also being motivated by his vengeance against Endeavor. In the end, Dabi only used Stain's ideals to cover his motives and justify his crimes against the hero society. However, Dabi at least had a capacity for remorse. While he had no problem killing the Pro Hero Snatch, the latter's words appeared to have resonated with him, implying that Dabi held sympathy for those who have lost family due to villains, as well as the loved ones of those whom he had killed. Yet, this remorse did not extend to his family, as Dabi frequently contemplated their deaths for the sake of revenge against Endeavor. Dabi was also aware of his madness and wasn't against the idea of suicid.
Quirk
Blueflame (蒼そう炎えん, Sōen?): Dabi's Quirk granted him the ability to generate and control highly destructive blue flames from his body. Originally orange and red, his Quirk turned blue after going through a growth sprout. He had very well-developed control of his flames and could unleash them far from himself and in large amounts. Furthermore, his flames possessed greater firepower than his father, Endeavor's, Hellflame Quirk, and they became even stronger when Dabi felt strong emotions, especially anger and hatred.[1] However, Dabi's body had a low tolerance for his own flames due to him inheriting his mother's constitution, which gave his body resistance to freezing temperatures rather than intense heat. As a result, he would get burned if he used them for prolonged periods and severely limited his endurance, with the highest temperature of his flames being fatal.
Relationships (family)
Enji Todoroki: The Flame Hero: Endeavor is Dabi's father. Dabi holds a huge grudge against Enji for rejecting him in the past and feeling like he was being used as a tool. In fact, Enji's overwhelming negligence on him seems to be the main reason for his fall to villainy. Enji is also extremely neglectful to his other siblings and extremely abusive towards Shoto.
Rei Todoroki: Unlike his father, Toya seemed to be very close to his mother Rei as a child according to Natsuo and Fuyumi. It is also mentioned by Natsuo that Toya's "death" greatly devastated Rei as her mental state had already been harshly affected by her husband's past abuses. Many years later, Rei would still think of Toya despite not knowing he is still alive as the villain Dabi.
Shoto Todoroki: Shoto is Dabi's youngest sibling and arch nemesis. While they are brothers, the two did not share a close bond in their childhood. After Shoto was born with the perfect ice and fire Quirk that their father desired, Toya fell into despair, taking it as a sign that his father's attention and original purpose for him had been taken away.
Fuyumi Todoroki: When she was born, Toya was happy with the new addition to the family. When they were kids, Toya confided in her about his desire to be acknowledged in the eyes of their father. In turn, Fuyumi showed great concern over seeing her older brother's burn marks and asked him not to push himself, though Toya angrily ignored her pleas and simply said a girl wouldn't understand, determined to surpass All Might.
Natsuo Todoroki: Toya didn't initially have a good impression of his younger brother upon his birth, due to him having realized what their father was trying to do by having more children. Despite this, Toya and Natsuo grew extremely close to each other, to the point of being inseparable, as they always played together as kids. Toya would also tell Natsuo everything about his inner thoughts and turmoil and lean on him for emotional comfort.
Relationships: L.O.V.
Tomura Shigarki: Dabi and Tomura were very disconnected during their first meeting. Dabi immediately insulted Tomura and refused to tell him his true name. Even so, they became comrades after Tomura found his conviction following their first meeting. Dabi follows Tomura's orders and he trusts in Tomura taking charge of the League of Villains. Following All For One's defeat, Dabi becomes a valuable ally and partner to Tomura.
Himiko Toga: Dabi appears to view Himiko as a valuable ally. Even so, he doesn't appear to have a high opinion of her personality and often refers to her as crazy. while he continues to insult her, he is more or less understanding after seeing her visit her family home. To erase her sadness from the visit, he gleefully burns down Himiko's family home though Himiko scolds him she appreciates the sentiment.
Twice: Dabi had shown no problems working with Twice and was seemingly not annoyed by his antics and contradictory personality. In return, Twice had confidence in Dabi's strength and rebuffed his doubt about his own strength. It is implied that Dabi and Twice viewed each other as brothers in combat.
