Luffy has shaggy black hair, round black eyes, and a lean, muscular build, his most well-known feature being his trademark Straw Hat (from which he gets his nickname "Straw Hat Luffy") which was given to him at a young age by the legendary pirate captain, "Ginger-Haired" Shanks, who in turn received it from Gol D. Roger, the Pirate King. He also wears vaguely Shanks's attire, wearing either long or short pants and high-waisted trousers, along with sandals and a red vest or shirt. Luffy also has a two-point scar below his left eye (he gave it to himself in Chapter 1). He was severely injured by Sakazuki in the Whitebeard War, leaving a large X-shaped scar on his chest. At first glance, Luffy appears to be thin and undersized, but he has a surprisingly well-built physique.

Luffy typically wears the same clothing for most of the series, though he often changes the color of his outfits or the accessories he wears, such as his mid-arm bracelet on Amazon Lily, or yellow, red, blue, or green clothing, among others. Luffy may wear a different outfit to suit an island's climate (such as a hooded jacket on Drum Island or desert robes on Alabasta), but returns to his normal attire (vest and shorts) after his adventures on those islands are over.

Although Luffy usually wears a red vest and blue pants, he does wear his usual attire in different colors: For example, in Enies Lobby he wears black pants, as they had large pockets in which he could carry the Water 7 meat, in Thriller Bark he wears an orange vest and red shorts, and in the Sabaody Archipelago he wears a blue vest and dark blue pants. During the assault on Impel Down, Luffy is shown wearing a light blue vest and red shorts, and after the fight against Magellan, Inazuma gives him a yellow vest, which he also wears during the battle at Marineford. However, no matter where he is, he always carries his Straw Hat everywhere, though initially, the hat was prone to falling off his head easily, forcing Luffy to either put it aside or pass it to someone while he was fighting. He has since gained a rope strap sewn for him by Nami, allowing the hat to hang around his neck during fights.

Luffy has also worn various adornments such as bracelets on occasion. During the Skypiea Arc, he was seen wearing a black bracelet around his left wrist with a white bracelet underneath, and after the battle against Gecko Moria on Thriller Bark, Luffy wore a bracelet with a dark decoration around his left bicep. This bracelet was later revealed to be a map leading to Captain John's lost treasure, which Buggy had been searching for some time ago, prompting Luffy to give it to him. This bracelet for Buggy is seen as a reward in exchange for his services in leading him through all the levels in Impel Down.

Two years later, Luffy wears a red, long-sleeved, four-button jacket (barreled chest) with a yellow sash tied around his waist, reminiscent of Gol D. Roger's attire. He also appears to be slightly taller, and his hair is longer. He appears more muscular in his arms, legs, chest, and shoulders (especially noticeable during the Wano Country arc), and his facial features are more pronounced, indicating his age.

In the Punk Hazard arc, Luffy is dressed in his usual attire, along with a jumpsuit-like outerwear that covers his entire body, keeping him completely warm. This suit features a pattern of horizontal lines and a hood at the top. He therefore once again wears a hood, as he did on Drum Island. However, Luffy continues to wear his usual sandals, despite the cold. Additionally, he wears gloves and small earmuffs.

In the Dressrosa arc, Luffy wears a black shirt with daisy prints and has covered the top of his hat with black cloth; other than that, he wears the same sash and pants as at the beginning of the timeskip. Initially, he had to remain incognito, so he wore dark sunglasses, a mustache, and a white beard. During the Mera Mera no Mi tournament, he wore a horned gladiator helmet with a feathered crest, bearing his tournament name on the back. After Sabo took his place, he temporarily covered his face with his cape.

Luffy, the protagonist of One Piece, is characterized by his optimistic, adventurous, and slightly childish personality, with an indomitable spirit and great determination to achieve his goals, such as becoming the Pirate King. Monkey D. Luffy (モンキー・Ｄ・ルフィ Monkī Dī Rufi?), better known as Straw Hat Luffy (麦わらのルフィ Mugiwara no Rufi?), is the main protagonist of the manga and anime series One Piece. He is the captain and founder of the Straw Hat Pirates as well as one of the Four Emperors who rule the seas of the New World. [19] He ate a Devil Fruit called the Gomu Gomu no Mi, which turned him into a rubber man. In addition to this, he possesses several abilities that make him a more than special pirate; a great example of this is the ability to use Haoshoku Haki ―which only one person in a million possesses― and also possess the other two types of Haki.

Luffy belongs to a family full of world-famous characters: he is the son of Monkey D. Dragon, the leader of the Revolutionary Army and the world's most wanted criminal; the grandson of the Navy hero and former Vice Admiral Monkey D. Garp; and the adoptive brother of the notorious pirate Ace "Fire Fist" - former commander of the second division of the Whitebeard Pirates - and of the Revolutionary Army's general officer, Sabo. His goal in life is to become the next Pirate King, find the legendary treasure known as "One Piece", which belonged to the previous Pirate King Gol D. Roger, and conquer the New World leading a crew made up of great pirates.

As the founder and captain of the Straw Hat Pirates, he is the first member of the crew, as well as one of its three main combatants. Luffy was one of the eleven rookie pirates known as the "Supernova Eleven" alongside his crew's swordsman Roronoa Zoro, and thus one of the eleven pirates with a bounty exceeding Belly 100,000,000. His bounty was later raised to Belly 1,500,000,000 following the events of Whole Cake Island[1] and currently has a bounty of Belly 3,000,000,000 as a result of all the events that occurred on the island.

Luffy has gained a huge reputation around the world for causing trouble even among the Seven Sea Warriors and the Navy, committing crimes and actions that are considered threatening to the World Government.

He is also particularly known for his irresponsible and impulsive behavior, as well as for making decisions that are generally considered downright crazy; prime examples include the incident at Enies Lobby, his infiltration and escape from Impel Down Prison, and his participation in the Battle of Marineford. He is therefore famous not only for being the only pirate to raid the three most important government facilities, but also for escaping from all of them without any crew casualties, causing extensive damage in his wake (especially at Enies Lobby).

All of the above, coupled with the fact that he attacked a World Noble, hitting him even though he knew the consequences due to the sacred position granted to nobles by the World Government, has caused Luffy to be labeled by the Navy as the kind of pirate who would cause serious problems in the near future.
