Although born without a Quirk (a special power that most people in the world possess), Izuku managed to attract the attention of the legendary hero All Might due to his innate heroism and has since become his closest apprentice, as well as a student in Class 1-A of UA High School under Professor Aizawa Shota. All Might passed his Quirk on to Izuku, secretly making him the new wielder of One For All. He was also trained by Gran Torino (All Might's former teacher).

Izuku has a strong fascination with heroes and is shown to be well-informed about their stories, sometimes surprising the heroes with his vast knowledge. Of all the heroes, the Symbol of Peace, All Might, is the one who most impacted and shaped Izuku's life. Many of Izuku's decisions and actions result from his desire to become a Pro Hero similar to All Might, and therefore, he has a great devotion to him.

Izuku is an avid collector of All Might merchandise, knowledgeable about his various feats (however small) and emulating many of his characteristics. Having inherited his Quirk, one of Izuku's current priorities is to fulfill his idol's legacy, always seeking ways to improve the use of One For All, aware of the immense pressure that comes with succeeding the greatest hero of all time. The unwavering trust and approval Izuku receives from All Might have been vital to his development as a hero, especially when feelings of insecurity and helplessness plague his mind.

As a child, Izuku greatly admired heroes and dreamed of becoming a hero like his idol, All Might, once he obtained his Quirk. However, when children his age manifested their powers, Izuku still showed no signs of developing special abilities. Because of this, his mother took him to a doctor who delivered the terrible news that he had two joints in his little toe, meaning he would never have a Quirk.

Later that night, Izuku continued watching videos of All Might on his computer and, crying, asked his mother if he could still become a hero. She hugged him and apologized, words that Izuku would remember as not being what he wanted to hear, because they made him feel inadequate for those with Quirks. Even so, Izuku still aspired to be a hero and enter high school. This ambition led him to be constantly bullied and ridiculed by his childhood friend, Katsuki Bakugo, and his classmates, who believed it was impossible for someone without a Quirk to become a hero. Despite this, Izuku still considered them both friends at the time, always following him around.

Izuku is attending classes at Aldera Junior High when his teacher announces that all the students will graduate this year. Katsuki replies that he is not like the other members of the class, calling them unqualified and stating that only he is destined to study at UA, and alone he will surpass All Might. Once his teacher announces that Izuku is trying to enter UA as well, Katsuki is shocked and furious. He reprimands Izuku and uses his Explosion Quirk to scare him, claiming that someone who is Quirkless cannot enter UA and there is nothing he can do to change it.

After class, Katsuki takes Izuku's hero notebook, burns it, and throws it out the window. Katsuki tells Izuku that heroes have stories about them since their early school years, that only he is destined to reach that school, and Izuku is merely a stepping stone to his greatness. Before leaving class, Katsuki warns Izuku not to enroll in UA under any circumstances. Izuku leaves the classroom to retrieve his notebook and remembers how he began dreaming of being a hero, as well as how he discovered his Quirkless condition.

That same day, while walking home, a villain fleeing the scene of a crime encounters Izuku. The villain had apparently escaped All Might earlier in the day. The villain decided that to avoid detection, he should take over Izuku's body. Just as Izuku panicked, All Might appeared and saved him. Stunned, Izuku asked for an autograph, but discovers that All Might left it for him before he could ask the questions he had in mind.

In an attempt to make All Might stay, Izuku grabbed All Might's leg and hung on as he launched himself into the air. After a brief struggle, All Might agreed with Izuku that he would die if he let him go, and they soon landed safely on a rooftop, where Izuku asked if he could become a hero without a Quirk, telling All Might that he had always wanted to be a hero and save people.

Suddenly, All Might's appearance drastically changes to a slimmer form. All Might reveals to the shocked young man that he was injured in a battle five years ago and can only remain in his hero form for a short period of time. He goes on to tell Izuku that pros must always put their lives at risk to save the day and therefore cannot openly say whether it is possible to be a Hero without a Quirk, as it may not be possible.

Devastated by his idol's words, Izuku begins to reconsider his dream of becoming a hero. His thoughts are interrupted when he approaches the scene of a villain's attack. Izuku recognizes Katsuki as the victim being possessed by the Sludge Villain who attacked him earlier and feels guilty for having accidentally let the villain escape All Might's control. Having looked into Katsuki's pleading eyes, Izuku runs towards the villain, trying to save Katsuki despite being Quirkless. As the Sludge Villain prepares to attack Izuku, All Might, inspired by the boy's action, appears and defeats the villain before Izuku can get hurt.

All Might tells Izuku that he is worthy of inheriting his strength and that he has the power to transfer his Quirk to other people, much to Izuku's shock. All Might then begins training him at Takoba Beach Municipal Park, moving large pieces of trash such as trucks, large office drawers, and bookshelves. He explains that Izuku has to train his body to be strong enough to withstand the power of his Quirk, otherwise it could result in Izuku losing limbs.

After ten months of intense training, the day of the entrance exam arrives. At six in the morning, at the last possible second, Izuku moves the last piece of trash from the entire beach. All Might is surprised when Izuku cleans the whole beach and praises him when he cuts a lock of his hair and gives it to Izuku, who is surprised to have to eat it, receiving his first dose, a small piece of One For All. However, since the entrance exam is so close, Izuku needs to rush to school without getting used to the power.

Izuku arrives at UA for the entrance exam, excited at the chance to become a hero. Izuku tried to run away, but then he saw the same girl who helped him earlier on the ground, about to be attacked by the robot. Seeing her in danger, Izuku mustered the courage to fight the robot and, for the first time, uses One For All, attacking the enormous robot with a devastating punch that completely destroys it and saves the girl's life, while shocking everyone else with his beautiful attitude. However, Izuku's bones immediately break from never having used it before, and he begins to fall. He tries to use Detroit Smash to land safely, but before he can activate it, the girl whose life Izuku saved uses her Quirk to allow him to land safely. The practical test is declared over, much to Izuku's dismay, as he didn't score a single point before collapsing from exhaustion.

A week later, Izuku receives a letter that will determine whether or not he has been accepted into UA. Izuku opens the letter in his room and a screen with All Might appears. He apologizes for not contacting Izuku sooner and informs him that he will be working as a teacher at UA. All Might says that he did well on the written exam, but that he scored zero on the practical exam. Izuku accepts this and prematurely assumes that he has failed.

Izuku is accepted into high school after being approved. However, All Might tells him that because of his heroic actions during the practical exam, he earned 60 teacher rescue points, meaning he passed and was therefore accepted into UA, much to Izuku's joy and happiness.

Quirk Apprehension Test: Izuku, now a student at U.A., is greeted by Ochaco's cheerfulness, which embarrasses Izuku. Observing the scene, Katsuki recalls a skirmish he had with Izuku regarding the U.A. entrance exam results, where Izuku managed to show courage against his longtime bully after being threatened. This is followed by the homeroom teacher, Aizawa Shouta, entering the classroom and explaining to the students about the Quirk Apprehension Test they must pass.

Aizawa Shouta (Eraser Head) warns Izuku not to destroy his body with his Quirk. Shouta further explains that whoever comes in last place on the test will be expelled from UA Alto, putting immense pressure on Izuku. The students are tested on the power and use of their Quirks through various exercises under Shouta's observation, but because of his lack of control over One For All, Izuku is unable to use it in most attempts, leading him to perform below the standards set by his classmates. When it comes time for the ball-throwing test, Izuku, with no choice, tries to throw the ball as far as he can using One For All, but Shouta stops him, erasing the Quirk. Izuku recognizes him by his glasses and Nullification powers as the hero Eraser Head.

Shouta tells the student that, with a Quirk like One For All, Izuku will be nothing but a burden, repeatedly putting himself in danger, and that if he doesn't find a way to prevent One For All from massively crippling his own body, Izuku's future as a hero will be in jeopardy. Shouta then gives Izuku a second chance at the field test. Keeping Shouta's words in mind... Izuku activates only the tip of one of his fingers and launches the ball a considerable distance. He shocks his class with this display by telling the teacher that he is still standing, while Shouta is impressed by his feat.

As Shouta is leaving, he sees All Might, who tells Shouta that he knows he was actually planning to expel the last-place student from UA. All Might then concludes that Shouta sees the same potential in Izuku that All Might sees. Shouta ignores All Might's words and says that Izuku's chance of becoming a great hero is greater than zero, and that he sees nothing more than that. He claims he will expel Izuku if he sees his chance fall below that mark.

At the end of the day, Izuku is joined by Ochaco and Tenya, with the newly formed trio returning home together, where Ochaco tells Izuku that his insulting nickname Deku, given to him by Katsuki, sounds like the Japanese word for "you can do it," causing him to adopt the nickname, much to Tenya's surprise. Izuku explained that his view of his name had just changed.

Izuku is a very shy, reserved, curious, and polite boy, often overreacting to unusual situations with exaggerated expressions. Due to years of being looked down upon by Katsuki for not having a Quirk, he is initially portrayed as insecure, whiny, and expressionless. These characteristics are especially present around Katsuki, who also constantly tormented him about his aspirations to become a hero. However, after being accepted into UA High School, making new friends, and confronting Katsuki a few times, Izuku gradually matured and became a more confident and courageous person, always eager to prove his worth as a hero, developing strong leadership skills that, combined with his passion and strategic abilities, transformed him into a central figure within Class 1-A alongside Katsuki.

Izuku is a very diligent and determined student, extremely (and sometimes frighteningly) enthusiastic about topics related to heroes. His dream leads him to write notes on everything he learns regarding the quirks and fighting abilities of heroes. Izuku usually writes these observations in various notebooks that he calls Hero Analysis for the Future, checking them regularly during school activities or at night.

Izuku is caring and emotional, never hesitating to help or rescue someone in danger, even if he knows he may not be strong or qualified enough to do so. He often does this instinctively, taking a more reckless approach than usual and putting himself in danger to protect someone. Izuku is known for helping people with personal and emotional problems, regardless of whether it's his business or not, arguing that a hero should meddle in other people's lives. This audacious spirit, although initially seen as disconcerting, is also recognized by many, having earned their loyalty and gratitude.

Sharp Intellect: Izuku has proven to be exceptionally intelligent on many occasions, displaying keen observation and analysis, as well as appropriate intuition and resourcefulness. His grades are among the highest in his class, showing that One For All training rarely interferes with his studies. Izuku's intelligence has likely been a more useful asset to him than One For All so far. Izuku learns quickly, which helped him figure out most of One For All's mechanics in a short amount of time and overcome its limitations.

Izuku also possesses extensive knowledge of Pro Heroes, his classmates, and their Quirks, which he meticulously notes in his Future Hero Analysis. This stems from his excellent observational skills, combined with his own desire to become a hero and learn from the best, meaning Izuku always has a natural interest in expanding his knowledge further. Izuku is an exceptional strategist and tactician. By combining his quick learning and aforementioned knowledge of Quirks, Izuku is able to devise plans that make the most of his friends' abilities. Izuku's predictions have been crucial at various points in his school life, allowing him to achieve victories and save lives.

• Individuality / Quirk: One For All.

Trained Muscles: Using One For All requires the user to have strong muscles, as it is very difficult to handle and can cause the user's body to be destroyed if they do not possess the necessary strength.

Enhanced Resistance: Izuku has shown on many occasions that he is capable of handling large amounts of pain. These occasions were mostly side effects of overuse of his Quirk and often resulted in multiple broken bones. Izuku is able to avoid these repercussions by maintaining a safe range of One For All energy emission (currently, this is around 12%, with 20% bearable for a few minutes).

• One For All: Transferred to him by All Might, Izuku's Quirk allows him to store a massive amount of raw energy, enabling him to significantly enhance all of his physical abilities to a superhuman level. This results in unbelievable levels of strength, speed, agility, and durability.

Izuku can concentrate the power stored in a single part of his body, or spread it evenly throughout his body; however, concentrating the power in a single part exerts greater strain on that part of the body. He is also able to control what percentage of his total power he uses. Currently, he is able to handle 45% of his total power without breaking his bones, with 30% being his normal power.

If forced to expend more energy, Izuku is still able to fight decently, even with broken limbs, thanks to the effects of adrenaline, but will succumb to exhaustion later. Izuku must also be cautious with his arms, which have become worn down due to repeated injuries and may eventually stop functioning completely if he doesn't control himself.
