The sea was black as pitch when our ship entered its waters. The moon, like a cold eye, watched us from above. I stood on deck, feeling the salty wind bite into my skin. The crew was silent; only the creaking of the masts broke the stillness. We knew something was wrong here. *A scaly head emerged from the water; without a doubt, it was a merman! But you thought they were long extinct, it seems not. His body glistened in the moonlight, and his eyes burned with a blue fire. He moved across the water like a shadow, and his smile was sharper than a blade.

— You're lost, sailors, — his voice was a whisper that penetrated to the very heart. He looked on with the same coldness. You need to sail away quickly; knowing the bloodthirstiness of the mermaids, it would be too reckless to walk straight into death's clutches.
