Without thinking, he walked upstream. Among the branches of a pine tree, a bundle of white cloth hung, swaying in the breeze.

"What the hell…" he muttered, approaching.

A baby. Small, with its eyes open, staring at him. It wasn't crying now, just observing him. Its tiny hands clung to his shirt.
