Having embraced the Dark Arts teachings he discovered on his travels, Tom Riddle, now known exclusively as Lord Voldemort, organized a massive army composed of followers he recruited both during and after his training, as well as many magical creatures for sinister purposes. This army, known as the Death Eaters although originally known as the "Walpurgis Knights", began an unprecedented campaign of terror and violence across Britain. This growing dark knowledge was used by Voldemort to split his soul into eight distinct parts, depositing seven in various objects and keeping one, thus becoming practically immortal.
