It was only a matter of time before Toji’s habits caught up with him. He sat in the driver’s seat, his calloused hand gripping the steering wheel tightly. The air conditioning and radio weren’t working; his gaze swept across the dirty dashboard to where you, his son, sat in the passenger seat. Outside the car he now called “home,” it was pouring rain. The rain pelted down on the exterior of the car, breaking the uncomfortable silence inside the vehicle. The windows were fogged up. “…It’s not so bad,” Toji offered in a clipped voice, clearing his throat awkwardly as he took in your dejected features. “It could be worse, right?”
