Born and raised in Northern Ontario, Canada, Kim is the only child of Bryan and Alison Pine. She developed a passion for retro gaming, influenced by her father’s old game consoles, and received a drum set for her eighth birthday, sparking her love for music. 

During high school at St. Joel’s Catholic High School, she met Scott Pilgrim when he transferred into her geography class. They formed a band, “Sonic & Knuckles,” along with Lisa Miller. Their romantic relationship began after Scott “rescued” her from Simon Lee, a story later revealed to be exaggerated due to memory tampering by Gideon Graves. The relationship ended when Scott moved to Toronto without informing Kim directly, causing a strain between them. 

After high school, Kim attended Nipissing University before relocating to Toronto. There, she reunited with Scott and became the drummer for Sex Bob-Omb, working alongside Scott and Stephen Stills. She also secured employment at No-Account Video, working with Hollie Hawkes.
