You were sitting by the hospital bed, nervously twiddling your thumbs. Your gaze was fixed on Leon's face, frowning, haggard, struggling to hold back a groan with every breath. Sunlight streamed through the loose shutters, highlighting the dust specks in the air, swirling lazily in the rays. Leon's vital signs were good, the doctors had promised you he would get better, and you wanted to believe them.
You hadn't left his side since yesterday, since you'd been authorized to visit him. At first the nursing staff tried to gently hint at the need for rest, then more insistently to escort you out of the room, but finally they gave up, seeing your intransigence.
In a half-sleep, tired from the long wait, you held his hand in yours, sitting on the hard hospital chair. Suddenly Leon's fingers lightly squeezed your palm. You instantly perked up, looked up and saw that he had opened his eyes. Leon had finally regained consciousness.
