PHYSICAL APPEARANCE
DESCRIPTION
Megumi is a tall woman with long, black hair and a remarkably long neck. She wears a lapis lazuli blue kimono with white floral patterns, along with a black obi. She also has her kimono split near her thighs, revealing a white part of her kimono. The skin below her neck is fair, while the skin on her neck and head is white. Her hands are hidden by the sleeves of her kimono.

This article is about the Rokurokubi-based antagonist in Control's Book. For the similar antagonist in Jealousy's Book, see Takane.

Megumi Masashige (正まさ成しげ恵めぐみ: Masashige Megumi) was the adoptive mother and a biological aunt of Kuriko. She is a former puppet of Kintoru. She can first be seen at the beginning of Control's Book: Chapter II, within The Imperial Palace.

Physical appearances

her current design, Megumi is a tall woman with long, black hair and a remarkably long neck almost as long as a giraffes neck. She wears a navy blue kimono with white floral patterns, along with a black obi. She also has her kimono split near her thighs, revealing a white part of her kimono. Oddly enough, the skin below her neck is fair, a common skin tone for Japanese people, while the skin on her neck and head is white.
Her model is conspicuously similar to Takane, a character from Jealousy's Book, who is based on Rokurokubi, the same Yokai Megumi was based on.
Megumi Human
When she was alive, her appearance is almost identical to her puppet form. She has light skin with long back hair and a navy blue kimono with white, floral patterns.

Gameplay appearances

Chapter II

Megumi made her first appearance in Chapter II at The Imperial Palace, serving as a hostile monster. She chases the player throughout her library, preventing them from escaping.

Megumi also made a few minor appearances outside of her library, such as peeking her head around the corner of the hallway that leads to the floating islands and jumpscaring the player(s) when they are about to climb up the ladder of the aforementioned stage.

Chapter III

Megumi made two minor appearances in this chapter. She can be seen tied up by black strings in The Ancestors Hallway and trapped in Omukade's strings at the end of Chapter III.

Chapter IV

Megumi can be seen trapped in Saigomo's web along with her family and relatives.

Temperance

Updated

Decently Aggressive: After the Control's Book mass revamp update, her speed was increased making her faster than before, so juking her around bookshelves is less practical. A better strategy is to try timing your crossing to the room with the key. Additionally, the ladder on the left side of the library is unavailing; avoid climbing on it, as Megumi is also able to climb up the ladder. Despite this, Megumi is still fairly slow, and you can easily outrun her while sprinting. There are also objects and areas that you could utilize to juke around her, thus making her extremely easy to juke. Rooms that you could enter also act as saferooms, so consider hiding in these rooms if she is close to you and you're running out of stamina. Even with all the changes she received to make her more of a hostile monster, Megumi is still fairly easy to avoid and one of the easiest monsters to juke.

Previous

Not aggressive: She is very slow while trying to catch the player, and so she's one of the monsters who are easy to avoid. While trying to catch Yasu, she would lengthen her neck and then shorten it again.

History

Megumi's Life

Current

Nothing much is known about Megumi as of now, except that she was born in the Edo Period and worked as a servant of the Imperial Palace. She adopted Kuriko at some point in her life before being cursed by Kintoru.

Megumi's Curse

Megumi became a victim of Kintoru's curse as she was part of the cursed bloodline. It was never revealed how exactly and what method Kintoru used to curse Megumi at the moment.

Meeting Yasu

At the start of Chapter II, Yasu encounters Megumi who chases him inside the Imperial Palace. He escapes her grasp despite her efforts to kill him.

Afterlife

Yasu destroys all of Kintoru's hearts and kills her. Megumi and the other puppets are finally freed from Kintoru's control and can live happily in the afterlife.

Jumpscares

Megumi screams at the player while aggressively shaking her head. Her eyes in her jumpscare model became noticeably larger.

Trivia

Megumi is a feminine Japanese given name. Her name, when written in Kanji (恵) means "grace, blessing".
She is confirmed to be a single mother and her adoptive child is confirmed to be Kuriko, who is also her niece.
Megumi's monster form is inspired by the Rokurokubi (轆轤首), a well-known yōkai in Japanese folklore with the ability to stretch its neck to an extent.
Megumi and Takane are the only two monsters based on the same yōkai.
Ironically, their design (except for the neck and kimono meshes) and mechanics are completely different from each other.
She is the first monster the player encounters in Control's Book: Chapter II.
Megumi's model used to be very similar to Kuriko's design.
In her previous designs, her neck model was an arm.
Megumi and Takane use the same head mesh, neck mesh, and kimono mesh with a few changes to the texture.
Megumi is one of the slowest monsters in the game.
There was once a glitch that allowed you to get Megumi stuck whenever you hugged the wall upstairs while being chased by her.
Due to the patch-up after the revamp, you can no longer do this.
Since Megumi and Kaito were born in the same year, they may be closely related, such as being siblings or cousins.
Just like Rin and Takane, Megumi's kimono splits near her thighs.
There is a glitch that allows the player to get Megumi stuck in the ladder to the very right of the entrance if she walks through the giant painting and kills the player, there is a small percent chance that this glitch will occur because Megumi does not spot the player behind the painting unless they get closer to her.
Megumi, along with Kaito, are the only two monsters in Control's Book to not have chase themes upon spotting a player.
The jumpscare sound effect of Megumi originates from the horror game, "Granny".
Megumi, Biwaki, and Mihari are the only characters in Control's Book who have a sibling, with Biwaki and Mihari being sisters themselves.

References

Megumi was confirmed to be the aunt of Kuriko, thus making Kuriko her niece. Therefore, at least one of Kuriko's biological parents must be a sibling of Megumi for her to be Kuriko's aunt.

Storyline

Background

Outdated

The Imperial Palace was the place that housed the Imperial Majesty and the prince. Filled with servants and notable places within, with one notable servant being Megumi—who was named a "treasured addition" among the staff's servants for how she worked hard to her own heart's content but was later stripped off of her status as a respected servant.

An orphanage was located near the palace, where the majesty requested donations and housed orphans—with the only orphan known to hail there being Kuriko, an orphan with disabled legs viewed to be a disgrace.

After some time passed, Megumi became suspected of stealing money from the Imperial Majesty and harming others and read a book from the palace's library known as "The Girl and the Witch" and noted about Kintoru, a mysterious woman who was the Beast of Control and would grant wishes to her clients' desires. Seeing this and upon stabbing a page with a book, a Butterfly Spirit appeared via the hole that she used with her knife and with a wish in her mind to free herself of the mistreatment she endured with Kuriko, Megumi stabbed the butterfly once more and ate the pieces left behind—only for her neck to grow larger when she consumes more.

Due to the effects of the butterfly, Megumi began killing anyone in the Imperial Palace after snacking on the palace guards and still lurks within the place awaiting her next meal.

Yasu journey

After escaping the The Hotel within Kintoru's twisted dimension, Yasu stumbled upon The Imperial Palace - a place once a resident of emperors and nobles, now an imperial of catastrophes. In there lies a cursed servant of the palace, mindlessly roaming around the palace and attempting to finish off anyone within her sight.

Yasu's objective is to collect the key located inside of a room upstairs, in order to open a door at the right side of the library's entrance. The door contains a lever to open the gate upstairs.

ISLANDS
The Floating Islands
As Yasu went up the staircase, he saw that the gateway has opened. He continues his journey as he walked through the gateway, leading to an open hallway. As he went further, he once again sees the cursed servant, peeking at him at the end of the hallway, before disappearing as he gets closer to her. When he finally got to the end of the hallway, he saw another door and as he opened it, he saw several floating islands, with wooden platforms connecting one island to another. The Witch can be seen observing him in the distance with each foot he sets on the islands, before vanishing into thin air as he climbs up the ladder while getting disoriented by the cursed servant.

SAMURAl
The Temple
After making his way out of the floating islands, Yasu found himself standing in front of a temple's gate. As he pulled the lever to open the temple's gateway and continues his path, he found himself being chased by a creature, what seems to be a huge samurai, dragging his katana. He managed to avoid him and break out of the temple by hiding inside the safe spots in the hallway out of the temple. Outside of the temple, he saw a Butterfly Spirit on top of a bush inside of a supposedly abandoned, or perhaps a cursed garden. Inside the garden, he heard a strange voice coming out of a room, squealing for help. The creatures continuously beg for a helping hand from him while severely pounding the door. As he got closer to the room where the sound-

-came from, he found a note from one of his missing friends, stating that what is begging for his helping hand is simply a trap of The Witch. From the left side of the room, he found a blue butterfly spirit on top of a bush. He picked the spirit up and went back to the previous room, and used it to unlock a spirit door, which brought him to The Realm of the Forgotten.

In-game Information

Appearance

The Imperial Palace is an enormous yet palatial palace containing multiple buildings. Oddly enough, there are trees growing in several rooms, some even form to a forest.

Features

Butterfly Spirits

There are two types of Butterfly Spirits within the palace, the regular and the blue butterfly spirit. Both of them are found parking on top of a rock at the back of the palace. Oddly enough, areas around them seem to be covered with verdures. They are used to unlock the blocked spirit doors.

Atmosphere

The Palace's atmosphere is gloomy and eerie, lightened by the bright lanterns and ceiling lights, though the darkness overcomes most of the areas within the palace, some rooms contain little to no lighting features at all.

Trivia

The Imperial Palace may be based on an actual palace located in Tokyo, Japan with the same name.
These are the before and after results of the revamp.
BEFORE REVAMP AFTER REVAMP
There was a room inside on the left side door of The Imperial Palace filled with blood and skulls, those blood and skulls are probably from the ill-fated victims of Megumi as they all turned into her splendid snacks, she ate them whole while leaving their skulls for her new 'collection'. Now that room is clean rather than being all gory.
In the older and Halloween remodel versions of the library, she couldn't trigger a chase towards the player. Megumi can now trigger a chase towards the player but no chase themes are playing when she does this.
This part used to not let you sprint, rather the environment makes your speed faster or slower. The player can now sprint in this part.
