Jay is the most light-hearted and energetic of the ninja. He is always telling jokes, most of which are only funny to himself. He usually does this to cover up fear and anxiety, as revealed in Season 6. He is also sensitive in both positive and negative ways and thinking. He enjoys boasting about his abilities, such as inventing and poetry, much to the annoyance of the others, but he proves to be a good friend and a skilled fighter. He is also somewhat high-strung, typically being the first to panic in dire situations.

Jay Walker, also known as Jay Gordon, is the Elemental Master of Lightning and the adoptive son of Ed and Edna Walker, as his biological parents surrendered him. He learned Spinjitzu and formed a team with Cole, Zane, Lloyd, and Kai, leading them on many adventures against foes like the Serpentine and Stone Army. During this time, Jay began a romantic relationship with Nya.

After Lloyd vanquished the Overlord, peace returned, but the Overlord later came back with an army of Nindroids based on Zane’s designs. The ninja parted ways after Zane died, but when they discovered he was alive, they went to Chen’s Island for the Tournament of Elements and fought the Anacondrai Cultists. Jay later assisted in battling Morro and cursed spirits and learned the martial art of Airjitzu. They faced Nadakhan, who captured many ninja in his sword. When Nya was poisoned and died, Jay used his last wish to bring her back.

A year later, Jay helped in a battle against a gang that revived Lord Garmadon and became stranded in the Realm of Oni and Dragons with his original team and Wu. After losing his sanity and being captured by Dragon Hunters, Jay regained control and planned an escape. They met a Hunter named Faith, who informed them about Dragon Armor. Wu got the armor and became the Golden Dragon Master, helping them return to Ninjago to fight against Colossus and reconnect with Nya.

When the Oni attacked Ninjago, Jay used the Tornado of Creation with his teammates to fight back. Later, he battled Aspheera and her Pyro Vipers, then ventured to the Never-Realm to save Zane, who turned out to be the Ice Emperor. After Zane was saved, they returned home.

Jay was trapped in the virtual world of Prime Empire while searching for Key-Tanas and Unagami. He eventually freed everyone, including Nya. The ninja later helped defeat the Skull Sorcerer and rescued Wu and Misako from the Keepers.

Lightning: Being the Elemental Master of Lightning, Jay can create, generate, manipulate and control Lightning and electricity. He can also seemingly fly with his powers,[9] although he hasn't used this ability ever since, as it seemed to be part of his True Potential abilities. He can withstand a certain intensity of electricity[10]. His lightning powers were enhanced further by the Nunchucks of Lightning, and later by his Elemental Blade. Jay can harness Lightning from storms to electrical devices to redirect them. Spinjitzu: Jay is capable of performing a Lightning Spinjitzu. Forbidden Spinjitzu: By holding a Scroll of Forbidden Spinjitzu, Jay is capable of performing Forbidden Spinjtizu. Shatterspin: By wearing a Wolf Mask in the presence of the Gong and Mallet of Shattering, Jay is able to use Shatterspin. Airjitzu: Jay is capable of performing Airjitzu. Elemental Dragon: Like all other Elemental Masters who managed to overcame their fears, Jay is capable of summoning his own Elemental Lightning Dragon at will.

Combat: Despite his goofy nature, Jay is a competent fighter and capable of performing hand-to-hand combat, able to go toe-to-toe with multiple enemies. He manage to fight off Skulkin, Serpentine, Stone Warriors, Nindroids, Anacondrai, Ghost warriors, Sky Pirates, Vermillion warriors, Re-Awakens, and more. One of his most notable combat was when he fought against Bizarro Jay where he defeated his evil clone without any assistance. Another example is in Scrap-N-Tap, despite being chained up he manage to hold against Monkey Wrench and Doubloon. At the Lighthouse battle, he manage to put up more of a fight against Doubloon but resorted to trick him to dave for time. He also manage to fight off Samukai. Despite being rusty after Nya's departure, Jay manage to land a few hits on The Mechanic. Swordsmanship: Although he uses chain weapons, Jay is a skilled swordsman, managing to fight Morro in the Ice labyrinth using an ice pike and then using two. Agility: Jay is shown to be very quick and light on his feet. In "My Dinner With Nadakhan", Jay manage to not only fight Clancee on a Raid Zeppelin but he also mange to avoid Doubloon by slide from a floating island to floating island despite having a Vengestone chain ball on one leg. Mechanical skills: Jay has an eye for machines and gadgets, being in charge of repairing and maintaining the various technology at the ninja's disposal. He was responsible for restoring the Destiny's Bounty to a functional state and equipping it with the modifications needed to make it fly. Over time, his inventing side was less emphasized, due to Nya, P.I.X.A.L., and even Sora taking up the role of inventors, but Jay's skill with technology should not be underestimated. Jay manage to design the Firstbourne Mech and had Cole and young Wu build it out of spare parts. Skilled thievery: Jay is shown to expertly steal things from others as he stole Nuckal’s sword without him or the others knowing, despite being tied up.

Intelligence: Despite being dimwitted at times, Jay is smarter than he looks. He is also good at quick-thinking in stressful situations, as he quickly suggested to Cole to use his ghost powers to undo a lock on Nimbus's room. Jay also created a plan to create a fake Firstbourne as a distraction, which accidentally brought the real Firstbourne. He managed to figure out that the Vengestone smuggling was taken through the N line with a secret passage. Both instances, Jay turned out to be correct, despite the others thinking he lost his mind and were surprised that Jay was correct. Fast learning: Despite Jay's goofy nature, he is a fast learner as he was the first to do Spinjitzu in "The Golden Weapon" and the first to master Airjitzu in "Peak-a-Boo", where he reaches for Ronin's apple, which was above the flag he was supposed to grab. Expert Driving/Piloting: Like the other Ninja, Jay is an expert pilot. He managed to fly his storm jet and the Misfortune's Keep. He is also an expert driver, with ground vehicles like his lightning bike or Nindroid tank. Leadership: Although it rarely seen, Jay is an effective leader, having to lead the Ninja Replacements to successfully infiltrate New Djinjago and strategically manage to capture two Sky Pirates by using their lip-reading skill. He also came up with the plan to make the Dragon Hunters think Firstbourne was protecting the Wind Dragon. Stealth: Being a ninja, Jay is able to sneak into places without being noticed. Although due to his chatty habit, Jay tends to blow his cover which was seen when he disguised himself as a Vermillion warrior, he forgot the soldiers don't talk. During the Tournament of Sources, Jay manage to avoid Nya and misdirect her to finding a Munce with his hairstyle

Nunchucks and chain weapons: Jay's favorite type of weapon is chain weapons such as nunchucks. Nunchucks of Lightning: Jay used the Nunchucks of Lightning as his primary weapon until it was lost, and then switched back to wielding regular nunchucks. he primarly used the Nunchuks of Lightning in Season 1 and briefly in Season 10 and in Season 15. Golden kusarigama: From Season 11, to The Merge, Jay used a golden kusarigama as his main weapon. He could also use the dragon head edge of the weapon to write. Prime controller: Jay's personal weapon used in Prime Empire, designed as a kusarigama. Flail: In Season 13, Jay used a flail with a thick mace on the other end of the chain. Elemental Blade: He eventually gained an Elemental Blade that allowed him to harness his lightning abilities to an even greater degree. Techno Blade: During the Nindroid crisis Jay, along with the other three ninja (Cole, Kai, and Zane), used Techno Blades, a weapon which allows them to hack into any electronics. Aeroblade: He also has an Aeroblade (along with Cole, Kai and Zane) that can destroy ghosts. Katanas: Jay has also proved to be proficient in using katanas in combat. Mace: During Season 9, Jay used a mace composed of a handle connected to a ball with spikes while he was in the Realm of Oni and Dragons. Harpoon gun: In Season 14, Jay briefly used a harpoon gun. Blaster: When he was an Administration Agent, Jay carried a blaster. Lighting Daggers: While operating as Rogue, Jay carried a pair of lighting daggers that could retain being stab on the Super Storm Jet

Jay was the first of the Ninja to be found by Wu. Jay was the second ninja to find his True Potential, the first being Zane. It's possible that the armor on Jay's right arm on his ZX suit was to protect his arm when he was swinging the Nunchucks of Lightning. He was the first of the ninja to learn Spinjitzu, the second to unlock his True Potential, and the third to find his Golden Weapon and summon his Elemental Dragon. Jay's inventions are said to fill entire warehouses, some of which he cannot remember the names or functions of. He talks to himself when he thinks he is by himself. Cole is Jay's best friend. Jay most likely got the notch on his eyebrow from one of his inventions when he was young. Jay is tied with Kai for being the third and fourth ninja to be presumed dead, the first being Zane. Jay is a good dancer because of the amount of time playing Dancy Pants. This eventually leads to him and Nya winning the dance competition. Jay's secret talent is building birdhouses. He paints them and gives them away, and sometimes hangs them outside the Ninjago city retirement home because he knows it gives them joy. Jay previously hinted at an interest in model-building. Jay is occasionally not serious about his missions, annoying Kai. He always hated doing laundry. Jay inherited his sense of humor from his mother. Jay is known to worry about things and then claim to have never worried in the first place when he is proven wrong. Jay is the first member of the Ninja team to use Shatterspin. Coincidentally, he was also the first member of the team to use Spinjitzu, making him the first Ninja to learn and use both versions of Spinjitzu.

style: When he isn’t in uniform Jay commonly wears sweater vests, his favorite is one that is blue has clouds. he layers the vest over a white button up and a blue tie. he mostly wears jeans, preferring the ones that sag a little and aren’t skin tight. he usually wears either tennis shoes or boots.

suit/uniform:

his uniform consists of a dark blue ninja suit, a grey backpack with an array of pins on the straps, and a hood that covers his entire face with the exception of his eyes. he has gloves that go to his elbows and socks that go to his knees, both of which have three gold rings around the top that his sleeves and pants tuck into. both the gloves and socks are black with the palms of the gloves and the soles of the socks being blue. he typically wears boots with his uniform, being blue with grey soles.
