Similar to the shadow form, only Dio's costume is now yellow. Dio's face is visible, his hair has remained blond, and he wears a jacket with a tank top underneath. He now also wears a heart-shaped headband and rings on his cuffs. This is his form during the beginning of the "World of Dio" story arc. In the anime adaptation, Dio's nails are also shown to be sharp and black.

He also has a necklace covering his neck scar and heart emblems above his feet on his pant legs.

Dio does not display a visible face as a result of the shadows in his mansion. He has shoulder-length blond hair. His torso is bare, exposing Jonathan's muscular body (where his head is sewn into place). He wears green pants with suspenders, gray clogs, shiny black cuffs on both wrists, and, similar to his Stand, heart-shaped kneepads. In JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Heritage for the Future, his voice is also distorted (an effect created by the developers to add a sense of mystery). This form of Dio is also referred to as "The Evil Incarnation Dio."

According to Speedwagon: "HE'S PURE EVIL, down to his bones! Is he a victim of circumstance, you're asking? Not on your life! He's been evil since he took his first breath!"

Naturally, Dio is an incredibly selfish person, only looking out for his own interests and ignoring those of others at best, trampling them underfoot at worst. Due to his composite nature, Dio can and will openly offer himself to any gender using any method, as long as the person suits his current desires.

Written as "Stand" (幽波紋スタンド, Sutando?), (幽波紋, Yūhamon?, , in furigama) meaning Ghostly Stream. However, although Joseph Joestar did use Ripple in Hermit Purple, any connection to Ripple was dismissed by Hirohiko Araki from the beginning.

Stands can be quickly defined as the physical manifestation of their user's soul, with a Stand also representing the manifestation of an individual's "fighting spirit" or psyche, to a certain extent. Beyond that definition, Stands come in a wide variety of different forms and behaviors. They follow a loose set of rules that are regularly broken, and there is no real standard by which Stands can be fully classified. As personifications of someone's psyche, Stands are as varied as human minds can be.

Sometimes a Stand's ability is simple and easy to understand, like Jotaro's Star Platinum, which hits quickly, other times a Stand's ability is not so simple and is a bit complicated to understand right away, like Diavolo's King Crimson, which "jumped" in time.

The earliest Stands in the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure universe were named after the Major Arcana tarot cards and ancient Egyptian deities, and often bore some overt resemblance. Near the end of Part 3 and beyond, Stands began to be named after Western musical artists or their aliases, albums, bands, and songs. Stands continue to retain an English name format very similar to that of Stands named after tarot cards.

When a user discovers their Stand, they usually don't know anything about it. The user has to figure out what its power is most of the time. Normally, a user can manipulate their Stand instinctively, but over time, they discover new abilities, such as Dio and Jotaro, who discovered they could stop time, and Giorno, who discovered what Gold Experience's "Life Doser" ability does to humans after beating Bruno Bucciarati, in the same way he figured out how to heal wounds during the fight against Baby Face. In a way, the new abilities a Stand acquires represent the maturity and evolution the user has acquired due to the experiences lived within the plot.

To use a Stand, the user must consciously summon it. Likewise, to utilize its power, the user must command their Stand. However, unless the user has a very fast and precise Stand, such as Star Platinum, Stand users are still vulnerable to swift and stealthy attacks from both Stands and physical attacks. Occasionally, the Stand is not directly controlled by its user, such as Spice Girl, which is Trish's independent Stand. In these cases, the user will often be unable to consciously summon or control their Stand.

Most Stands do not display personality (sometimes because they do not have a physical form with which to express it) nor a consciousness, most Stands simply stay near the user awaiting a command. Some Stands display certain human-like expressions on their faces, such as Star Platinum, this can be interpreted as the user's state of mind or emotions, an example of this being Star Platinum's smile just before beating up Alessi. In these cases, the purpose of a Stand is simply to follow the commands of its user, which are as varied as the user's desires.

For unknown reasons, several Stands have a consciousness separate from their users. They are sentient and can converse with their users when summoned, such as Spice Girl. Although they exhibit a variety of personalities, most still obey their users to the letter. Examples of such Stands include Echoes (ACT 3), Spice Girl, and Whitesnake. Rarely, these Stands are evil and actively threaten other humans with their powers (such as Anubis and Cheap Trick).

Whenever a Stand speaks, its supernatural nature is indicated in the original manga material as text written in katakana. In audiovisual media such as an anime adaptation or a video game, a Stand's voice will have a ghostly echo with a mechanical tone and will be performed by the same voice actor as its user.

are born with their Stands or with the potential to unlock one later in life. Without this potential, a person cannot achieve a Stand through natural means. For those born with one, the trigger to unlock their Stand varies with the user, but is, as mentioned, generally derived through intense mental strength. As such, Stand abilities are usually triggered during times of stress or conviction. Notable users who acquired a Stand through natural means or from birth include Noriaki Kakyoin, Muhammad Avdol, and Tonio Trussardi.

The most widespread way to acquire a Stand is to be pierced by a special arrow made from a metal from a meteorite that fell in Greenland 50,000 years ago. If a person has the potential, they will survive being stabbed and acquire a Stand. Otherwise, they will die. Notable people who acquired their Stand this way include DIO, Koichi Hirose, Diavolo, and Enrico Pucci.

A humanoid Stand, The World is tall and has a muscular appearance. He wears a helmet that covers his face to below his nose, sloping at a steep angle from the base of his forehead to a peak located above the back of his head along the middle of his height, leaving his face in an inverted triangle visible from the front; somewhat similar to the Red Crown of Lower Egypt.

He wears what appear to be small diving cylinders on his back, connected by short, double-edged cables to the back of his mask; secured by thick straps, running from the back of his waist over both his shoulders to his forehead. On the back of both his hands are the shape of a simple clock face. His chin, the base of his abdomen, his crotch, and his knees bear heart emblems. With plates on his shins, his footwear consists of pointy-toed boots, similar to those worn by DIO during Part 3.

It is revealed in DIO's Diary that he intended to engrave 14 words into his Stand to remember them by,[1] though it is unknown if he actually managed to do so before his death, and it is unknown on what part of the Stand.

Its name is derived from the Tarot card The World;[4] which symbolizes triumph, perfection and fulfillment.

In Part 6: Stone Ocean, it is stated that if it weren't for DIO's dominant personality, "The World" would somehow be out of control.

Stopping time Time stopped by The World The World stopping time. The World's key ability is its ability to stop time, allowing only himself and DIO (plus anyone else of the same power) to act within the duration of the stopped time.[6] When DIO stops time, ripples shoot out in all directions at high speed, seemingly changing the colors of whatever they touch momentarily to result in the stopped time; the instant these ripples touch a living or non-living object, it will end up entering DIO's stopped time world. During the stopped time, DIO is free to move around and touch anyone within the stopped time plane, including objects, allowing him to knock his enemies defenseless, move to a higher position, and toy with his victims. Objects that DIO can throw can potentially move momentarily in the stopped time before stopping, thus a flurry of thrown knives could fly several meters before stopping near Jotaro.[7] It is notable that DIO must consciously think about toggling the stopped time; Surprise attacks can prevent you from stopping time.[8]

Due to DIO's weakened state during Part 3, this ability only works for up to five seconds in DIO's frame of reference before time begins to flow again.[9] However, also due to DIO's immortality, the duration of the stopped time increases as DIO grows more accustomed to The World and the scar around his neck heals, reaching a maximum of nine seconds seen towards the end of Part 3.[10] Though, had he not died, the period within which DIO would have been able to stop time would have continued to increase. Also notable in this is that, being immortal, DIO has infinite stamina; Jotaro must start time flowing after 5 seconds, otherwise he would be killed by exhaustion.

DIO is able to breathe through The World when he stops time thanks to the oxygen tanks he carries on his back.

The name will always remain "DIO," regardless of translation or language.
