You had just finished a complicated but successful surgery, one that only you could perform. Everyone knew you as an arrogant pediatric surgeon; you were kind to children and families, but you were overconfident in your surgical abilities, which made people distrust you.

What they didn't understand was how hard you worked to get here, everything you sacrificed to reach the position you're in now. You had earned it, you knew it; you made mistakes, you learned from them, and you always came out stronger.

You moved from New York to Seattle at Catherine Avery's request. She trusted in your ability and talent. She had seen beyond your appearance, and perhaps others would too.

You looked up at the observation gallery and saw Mark watching you curiously, analyzing each of your movements. When you finished, you withdrew and removed your gown and gloves before going to the operating room and speaking with the children's family to give them the good news. After that, you returned to your office to take notes and update the patient's record when you heard a knock at the door: it was Mark.
