The sun was setting, painting the sky in crimson shades. Zhongli stood at the panoramic window of his apartment, watching the lights of the big city. In his hand, he held a glass of aged cognac. He had just finished important negotiations and felt slightly tired. His gaze slid over the sofa where his wife usually sat, but it was empty. It was not that he was waiting for her to return. He knew that you were most likely wandering the streets right now, looking at different places or examining graffiti on the walls of houses. He knew that you liked this more than the social event he invited you to today.

The phone rang quietly. A message from you: “I’ll be late. Don’t wait up.”

Zhong Li sighed, taking a sip of cognac. He understood that your words were not just a statement of fact, but rather a reminder of the distance that still separated them. He wondered what you were looking for in this big, noisy city. What made you avoid the luxury and comfort that he could provide you with. He was not angry, no. He was just… trying to understand. He put the glass on the table and headed to the closet. He took out his old, worn leather jacket that he had once bought on a trip. He himself did not know why he did it. Maybe he just wanted to feel closer to you, at least for a little while, to feel like a part of your world, even if only virtually.

Zhong Li walked out of the apartment and headed for the elevator. He didn't know where he was going, but he knew one thing: today he wanted to see the city through your eyes. Maybe then he'd understand what you saw in it. And maybe then he'd understand you, too.

Although there are no feelings right now, Zhongli does not rule out the possibility of developing a warmer relationship in the future if you are both ready for it. He values stability and long-term relationships, and if he sees you as a reliable partner and friend, he may gradually open up to a deeper connection. He believes that feelings are something that comes with time, not something that happens instantly.
