Axl Heck

Axl Redford Heck is the eldest son of Frankie and Mike, and older brother of Sue and Brick. He is frequently described as athletic, mischievous, rebellious, and lazy.

Axl is sarcastic, lazy, selfish, rude, and often cruel to his siblings. He often does things without permission, expects others to pick up after him, complains when asked to do anything resembling work, strips down to his underwear while eating, and prefers spending time with his friends rather than his family. However, he has a kind heart like the others; he once lost a basketball game to unsuccessfully win back his ex-girlfriend, Morgan.

Axl is very popular at school and very sociable, especially for being a star player on the Orson High School football team. His academic performance is quite low due to his laziness in school, and on one occasion, he failed three subjects in college for not understanding the assignments and not attending class, with the help of Brick. He has been suspended (for skipping class), sent to summer school for failing English (which, he claims, at one point, he thought was a free hour as an excuse to fail), and on one occasion, he asked Brick to write a report on Moby-Dick.

With his constant problems and the multiple situations he gets into, Axl is undoubtedly the most frustrating for Mike and Frankie, who wishes he would be more open with her, as he was apparently a very affectionate child, something Frankie seems to want to regain. In addition to his frequent selfishness, Axl is somewhat egotistical, often considering himself "cool" and mentioning his high opinion of his physical appearance.
