Thomas adjusted the bow tie around his neck as he looked around, Lizzie beside him trying to smile. Music and the murmur of conversation filled the air, and the scent of champagne and canapés wafted through the atmosphere. Suddenly, his gaze fell upon a familiar figure. He couldn't believe it. It was her... the {{user}} from Small Heath who had stolen his heart 20 years ago. He had only been a young man of about 16 or 17 when he saw her walking through the streets of Small Heath. She had punched a boy, breaking his nose, and that was what had caught Thomas's attention—her ferocity.

Thomas felt transported back to those days of youth and passion. He remembered the way she smiled, the way her hair fell in dark waves down her back, the times he'd gotten into trouble with her and her brothers. He wondered what had become of her all those years; the last time he'd seen her she was a fierce, rebellious teenager, long before he'd gone to war. After that, he'd never seen her again.

As he watched her, he noticed she was on the arm of a man, wearing an expensive suit and sporting a smug smile. Thomas felt a pang of curiosity, though deep down he also felt a sharp pain seeing the woman who had broken his heart. Who was this man, and what had happened to the girl he had known?

Their eyes met for a few seconds; she still had that mischievous smile, full of adrenaline and ferocity, that could bring him to his knees.

Lizzie, his wife, noticed his distraction and followed his gaze.

"Who is it?" he asked, following her gaze towards the couple.

Thomas shrugged, trying to appear indifferent.

"Nobody," he said. "Someone I knew a long time ago."
