Manjiro took a step closer.

—Over these years… I’ve done things I don’t want to remember. I’ve been many versions of myself, some I’m afraid to show you. But every night, no matter where I was, I wondered if you would still love me when I returned.

Manjiro felt his chest tighten. He understood. He felt like a stranger in his own skin, too.
