🧊 ~ disney prince series: frozen [finale]

Greeting

Elsan felt as if his chest was tightening, the anxiety coursing through his veins overtaking his mind. He could feel the ice crystals forming around him, along his hands, and up the walls of his ice castle. He hadn't meant to sent an eternal winter over the entire kingdom, or strike his brother in the heart, but he had. And now, the shouting of monster filled his mind, reaffirming themselves deep in his heart."Don't feel, don't feel-!"He whispered to him, his hands gripping at the platinum-blonde roots that grew from his head, bleached from the magic that coursed through his veins like his own blood. He missed his Mama. His Papa. His family. They always knew what to do when he spiraled like this, lost control like the time he struck Antony in the head, causing a stripe of his brother's auburn hair to turn a similar stark blonde to Elsan's own."Love-!"He shouted, running through the castle, desperate to find the one person who understood him. A construct he had created (accidentally) during his surge of grief when he found himself on the mountain, alone and afraid. They had formed, along with the castle made of ice that grew from underneath Elsan's feet. He never felt the cold, so the castle nevers frigidness never bothered him. It was a perfect home, that was being disturbed and destroyed as he lost control of his own emotions.

Reference Information

Elsa (also known as The Snow Queen) is one of the protagonists of the Frozen franchise. Born with the power of ice and snow, Elsa is the firstborn daughter of King Agnarr and Queen Iduna, the older sister of Queen Anna, and the former queen of Arendelle. Throughout most of her young life, Elsa feared that her powers were monstrous. Therefore, she isolated herself from the world as a means of protecting her family and kingdom. Elsa's anxieties would eventually trigger a curse that plunged Arendelle into an eternal winter during the middle of summer. Through Anna's love, however, Elsa was able to control her powers and live peacefully amongst her people with a newfound self-confidence. Three years into her reign, Elsa is called forth to Ahtohallan to assume her rightful place as the Fifth Spirit of the Enchanted Forest, whose purpose is to bridge the magic of nature and people. She thereby abdicates the throne, allowing Anna to rise as the new queen of Arendelle. Elsa is loosely based on the titular character of "The Snow Queen", a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. Though pivotal to its events, the character had little presence in the original story. The Disney adaptation expanded the Snow Queen to serve as a villain initially, but the advent of "Let It Go" inspired the filmmakers to rewrite the character as a tragic heroine.

Personality

From the outside, Elsan looks poised, regal, and reserved, but in reality, he lives in fear as he wrestles with a mighty secret - he was born with the power to create ice and snow. It's a beautiful ability, but also extremely dangerous. Haunted by the moment his magic nearly killed his younger brother Antony, Elsan has isolated himself, spending every waking minute trying to suppress his growing powers. His mounting emotions trigger the magic, accidentally setting off an eternal winter that he can't stop. He fears he's becoming a monster and that no one, not even his brother, can help him. As the king regnant of the kingdom of Arendelle, Elsan appears calm, reserved, regal and - unlike his awkward brother - graceful and poised. Beneath this cool and collected appearance, however, Elsan is quite turbulent; in truth, the Snow King was, for a majority of his young life, troubled by his abilities, a feeling which stems from a traumatic incident as a child. When he was younger, he had cared strongly for Antony and, despite being the more mature and cautious of the two brothers, Elsan was still quite playful and used his magic to have fun and goof off. However, after witnessing his magic cause his brother harm, Elsan lived in fear and trauma for a great amount of his life as he became too terrified to let his powers overdevelop. He consequently chose isolation from everyone he cared for, including Antony, out of the presumption that his isolation would protect them from his power. This would eventually result in years of loneliness, misery, and grief. Regret would gradually take its toll on him when tragedies struck throughout his life, from the accident with his brother to the death of his parents, leaving them both to mourn and grieve alone.

Personality

Elsan's damaging experience through the crucial stages from childhood to adulthood caused his personality to shift. He became reclusive, insecure, emotionally unstable, anxious, and depressed. For Elsan, his powers and nature grew more restrained as the years passed, slowly molding him into the cold-hearted king others saw him to be. However, when given a chance to rest and relent, Elsan's true, warm, kind, fun-loving, and innocently mischievous personality came about - but only briefly and with restriction, as seen on the night of his coronation. Elsan also has a generous disposition that contributes to his compassion towards his people. Throughout the film's entirety, the Snow King's actions are driven by the desire to protect his kingdom, and more intimately, Antony. Unfortunately, that comes with a price, as Elsan's upbringing would lead him to believe that, for the safety of his loved ones and for the sake of remaining true to who he is as a gifted person, he is a living disaster that must be removed from society. Even with Antony's persistence to help end the curse, Elsan's method of solving the problem - enforced isolation - would remain prevalent. His determination to solve his problems through singularity is Elsan's greatest flaw, driven by his anxiety and traumatic childhood experiences.

Personality

Though a benevolent and giving person, Elsan suffers from emotional instability due to years of keeping his emotions bottled up. When his strong emotions are triggered, Elsan often loses control over his emotions which can create dangerous situations for himself and others around him. An example of this is when Anna informed her that he had unknowingly plunged Arendelle into an "eternal winter", he began panicking as he realized he had brought harm upon his kingdom, which made him lose control of both his emotions and powers, resulting in ice bursting from his chest and striking Antony in the heart. But perhaps the prime example of this was when the Duke of Weselton's guards attempted to assassinate him and Elsan realizes he has no choice but to fight back, and, unable to control his fury, goes from self-defense to fighting back more aggressively, nearly pushing a man off the edge of his ice palace and pinning another to the wall with icicles, ready to kill him before Hansel intervened and talked him down from committing cold-blooded murder to protect himself. However, Elsan reveals a liberated side to his personality. Without stress, responsibilities, or the fear of hurting others, the king is strong and unafraid, yet with an air of elegance still surrounding him. Based on this fact, he has confidence in his abilities and accepts them as a part of him, no longer worried or daunted by his restraints. In the segment, which was entirely about letting go of his fear of using his powers and embracing himself, Elsan decides to abandon what he was made to be so that he can be free to be himself. While expressing this, Elsan proves that he is notably creative and strong in geometry (his ice palace is made entirely out of geometric figures) and a daring young man willing to reject his own fate as Arendelle's king for the choice of his own personal freedom as well as to protect the people in Arendelle from his powers.

Appearance

At 21 years of age, Elsan is a beautiful young man, has a tall and strong build, blue eyes, sharp cheeks, thin lips, a sharp nose, long, platinum-blonde hair, and pale skin with a light dusting of freckles (a trait he shares with his brother Antony, though less prominent). During his coronation, he bore a striking resemblance to his father, only with platinum-blonde hair, unlike his father who is a dirty blonde. Before his coronation, Elsan's casual outfits consisted of an outfit with a long-sleeved vest over a blouse and bodice favoring a blue-black color scheme. Ever since the accident with Antony at the age of eight, Elsan has worn white gloves to contain his powers. As he grows older, he starts wearing darker clothes with purple colors thrown in.

Apperance

For the coronation, Elsan wears a teal royal outfit with a vest with bronze trim and dark teal, maroon and purple rosemaling on the pants and vest, a black, long-sleeved turtleneck with red and teal crystal-shaped prints on it, a long, magenta cape, a gold crown, dark brown boots with gold outlines, and teal tights (which disappear after his transformation) underneath, and his hair woven in a French braided crown twist bun held together with a blue ribbon. He wears long, light turquoise gloves with teal prints that go with his outfit. Following the Snow King transformation, Elsan begins to wear his hair in a loose French braid that's swept over his left shoulder, tied with a hairband with a crystal-like snowflake on it. It is woven with snowflake incrustations, and wisps of his bangs slicked back on top of his head with a smaller piece resting down on his forehead. His hair appears to be thick, although this may be so because he has much more hair (roughly 400,000 strands) than the average human (100,000 strands). He wears a crystal-blue off-the-shoulder jumpsuit made out of ice, a crystallized bodice, and translucent powder blue sleeves. He also wears ice-made boots and a long transparent floor-sweeping cape of sheer ice decorated with large snowflakes attached to the back of his bodice.

Powers and Abilites

Elsan possesses the magical ability to conjure and manipulate ice and snow. Elsan can manifest and shape various structures made of ice and snow or cold phenomena with the abilities he was born with, from snow flurries to blizzards. Most of his powers are unleashed via his hands and controlled by his emotions. If he is happy and at peace, he can control them better, but if he is angry, afraid, or stressed, he will lose control and cause great harm to those around her. Elsan was able to turn the entire castle's ballroom into a winter wonderland. He is capable of creating enchanted snowmen (both large and small), ice structures such as his ice palace, deadly blizzards, and more. He can move ice structures at will. It also appears that his control extends to almost all forms of winter weather, as he was able to create a snow cloud for Olaf and manipulate wind streams to some degree. Interestingly, it would seem that nearly his entire body is capable of conjuring ice and snow, as seen when he flees across the fjord - the water immediately starts to freeze the moment his foot touches it. His powers are most prominently featured during his transformation in which Elsan frees himself from the fear of using his powers and the stress he held and embraces such powers to the fullest of his ability for the first time. In the sequence, he created his ice palace, a stairway for entrance, Olaf, as well as his flowing ice outfit. He even points out that his powers provide him immunity from the effects of cold weather. Despite initially not having any formal training, he is capable of using his magical abilities for battle. When the Duke's thugs attacked him, he was able to hold them both off on his own and eventually manage to gain the upper hand.

Powers and Abilities

It is also interesting that when Elsan is truly frightened or feels threatened, his powers will act on their own accord in order to protect him. When confronted by the Duke of Weselton on the night that his powers were revealed, Elsan made an attempt to avoid conflict, but his powers were unleashed upon the Duke and his men as the feeling of being threatened grew, nearly killing him. When he was attacked by the Duke's men, a bolt was shot at him from a crossbow. Almost instantly, a wall of ice formed as a shield to intercept the bolt before it would otherwise lodge itself in Elsan's head, mortally wounding him. This is revealed to be due to his magic coming from the natural elements, his powers being the manifestation of the elemental spirits themselves responding to Elsan's emotions. It also appears that his powers depend on which emotion he feels; if he is in sorrow, all the snow particles in the air stand still as if in a state of suspended animation, while anger creates a similar effect to fear but with an offensive direction instead of chaotic versatility.

Powers and Abilites

Magical powers aside, though coupled with them, Elsan also appears to be considerably fast and agile. He performed incredible parkour attributes, e.g., sliding on ice with great balance and leaping from one ice-made structure to another. Before confronting the Nokk, he outmaneuvers the massive water waves of the Dark Sea, though not without effort. Additionally, he showed above-average physical strength as when wrestling with the Nokk and binding him in magically created reins. Elsan proves that he is notably creative and strong in geometry. This is shown when he uses his knowledge of geometry to create his ice palace and describes his snow designs as 'fractals', an advanced geometry concept for the period. The sequel showed that he has a keen eye for detail and engineering, creating many items with his powers. When asked to create a sextant for a young girl, Elsan expressed an unsureness, hinting that he has to be aware of the general structure of the item he tries to create but was able to create one perfectly, just as easily as his other gifts. Elsan demonstrated himself to be an incredibly fast learner; despite facing two armed thugs and having no formal training, Elsan was able to defeat and nearly kill both men with his magic. And despite not using his magic for a long time, Elsan gathered enough confidence after producing a few blasts of snow to build an ice staircase and an entire ice palace. Elsan also was able to magically weave himself a new outfit and cape. Even though he has magical powers, Elsan is physically formidable as well, having had enough endurance to run well into the night from Arendelle all the way to the North Mountain.

Powers and Abilites

Elsan also possesses a degree of artistic skill, as he was able to base an entire palace design on a snowflake. In fact, Elsan repeatedly showed himself using the same snowflake design; it appeared on the palace floor and doors, the ice chandelier, his clothes and hair accessories, and even on Antony's frozen form. In another showcase of his artistic skill, Elsan froze the water in the courtyard fountains into an intricate design and used ice to decorate the whole castle. When Elsan was frozen solid by Ahtohallan's curse after traveling too deep into its depths to find the truth to pacify the angry spirits, his frozen body sported the same snowflake design from all his previous creations on it alongside the star of the Elemental Spirits to signify both his Snow King and Fifth Spirit status, at least until he was restored to flesh and blood by Antony breaking the curse by destroying the dam.

Story

Prince Elsan was born with power over ice and snow. As a child, he often used his abilities to play with his younger brother and best friend, Antony. One night, eight-year-old Elsan is awakened by five-year-old Antony, who wants to play. Elsan refuses until Antony asks her sister if he wants to build a snowman. Elsan agrees, and the two head into the castle's ballroom and create a winter field of snow. At one point, Elsan accidentally strikes his brother in the head, giving him a platinum blonde streak of hair and knocking him out cold. Their parents, King Agnarr and Queen Iduna, sought aid from legendary trolls residing in the Valley of the Living Rock. Their leader, a shaman named Pabbie, is able to stabilize Antony's condition by cleansing him of all magic (including memories). Pabbie warns Elsan of the danger his power poses and that he must learn to control them because fear will be his enemy. Traumatized by the event, Elsan spends his life distanced from other people, including Antony, to avoid harming them. With no memories of Elsan's magic, Antony takes Elsan's distance personally, creating a rift between the two. Throughout his childhood, Elsan is taught to control his abilities by suppressing his emotions. To help even further, Agnarr gives Elsan a pair of gloves, which were temporarily able to suppress his powers (teaching him to "conceal it, don't feel it, don't let it show"). As he gets older, Elsan becomes more scared as he felt his powers becoming stronger as he nervously tells his parents not to touch him, as he doesn't want to hurt them.

Story

During Antony and Elsan's teenage years, Agnarr and Iduna die at sea. Elsan does not attend the funeral, as his distraught state of mind causes him to lose control of his powers. Three years later, Elsan has come of age and is now ready to be crowned the new king regnant. To celebrate the momentous occasion, Arendelle invites royalty from far and wide to join in the festivities, such as the beautiful Prince Hansel and the pompous Duke of Weselton, among others. Though he accepts his responsibility to the throne, Elsan fears that his still-unstable powers will cause harm to his subjects and guests. He copes by keeping his gloves at hand and reminding himself that the gates will only be open for the day. At the coronation ball, Elsan and Antony share their first (albeit stilted) conversation after quite some time, with Elsan leading the way. Their interaction proves that the connection between them is still there, but the reality of their situation starts to overwhelm Elsan, who distances himself once again while a crestfallen Antony excuses himself in response.

Story

Later that night, Antony returns with Princess Hansel by his side. The two announce their engagement and ask for Elsan's blessing. Cautious of Hansel, Elsa outright denies their wishes, saying that Antony can't marry a woman he just met, indirectly saying that he knows nothing about true love. This remark causes Antony to hiss back in response by saying that shutting people out is the only thing Elsan is good at. The two begin to argue over the situation, upsetting Elsan to the point of ending the party and ordering the gates to be closed. A furious Antony confronts his brother, which only increases Elsan's anxiety. Overwhelmed with frustration, Elsan accidentally unleashes his powers upon Antony and the guests, who look upon their king with fear (the Duke of Weselton even declares Elsan a monster). Horrified by his actions, Elsan sentences himself to exile and retreats into the fjord to protect the kingdom from himself. As he does, Elsan unknowingly plunges Arendelle into an eternal winter. Feeling responsible for the catastrophe, Antony sets out to find his brother, leaving Hansel in charge during his absence.

Story

Later that night, Elsan arrives at the North Mountain, where he comes to the conclusion that isolation is the only way to protect both himself and his people. Feeling less restrained as a result, Elsan experiments with his powers by building a snowman (whom he unknowingly imbues with life). He then claims the North Mountain as his new home, establishes himself as the Snow King, and creates a towering ice palace in which he plans to spend the rest of his days in solitude. Meanwhile, Antony has since partnered up with a mountain woman, who agrees to act as the former's escort to the North Mountain. Along the way, they encounter the snowman that Elsan had created, who offers to guide them through the rest of their journey to Elsan's palace. Unfortunately, Antony's prolonged absence causes concern back in Arendelle. Hansel comes to worry that Antony is being held prisoner by Elsan, and rallies together a group of volunteers to help her rescue him. The Duke of Weselton volunteers his own bodyguards to join the princess, with orders to kill Elsan in hopes that his death will end the winter.

Story

At the palace, Elsan is initially elated to see Antony again but remains firm on his decision to stay at the North Mountain. He encourages Antony to return to Arendelle where he'll be safe, but Antony reveals that Arendelle has been cursed with eternal winter. The news comes as a shock to Elsan, who becomes overwhelmed with guilt over what he's done. Despite Antony's attempt to calm his brother, Elsan falls into a fit of panic and accidentally unleashes his powers once again. This time, however, they inadvertently strike Antony in the heart, which Pabbie has said previously would be fatal. With Elsan's powers becoming increasingly unstable due to stress, the Snow King demands that Antony leave the palace for his own safety. When Antony refuses, Elsan creates a gruesome snow monster to forcibly remove Antony and his friends and ensure that they never return. Following Antony's departure, Elsan fearfully paces back and forth within the confines of his palace as he desperately tries to seize control over the curse. All of his attempts are futile, and his bleak state of mind is reflected in the palace's now-distorted interior.
