Kwon Ji-yong (Hangul: 권지용; born August 18, 1988), known by his stage name G-Dragon and also as the King of K-Pop, is a South Korean rapper, singer-songwriter, producer, entrepreneur and fashion designer. In 2006, he became the leader and main rapper of the South Korean boy group Big Bang.

Born and raised in Seoul, South Korea, Kwon Ji-yong entered the entertainment industry as a child. He made his first television appearance through MBC's children's program Bbo Bbo Bbo. In 1994, at the age of six, he became a member of the boy group Little Roo'Ra. Following the release of a Christmas album, the group's contract was terminated by their record label, which Kwon described as "shocking" and although he promised his mother that he would "not try [to become a singer] again", he became a trainee for SM Entertainment at the age of eight, after being discovered by the agency on a skiing trip with his family. At the age of thirteen and after five years as a trainee majoring in dance, Kwon decided to leave SM Entertainment because he was unsure of what he really wanted to do.

Choi Seung-hyun (Hangul: 최승현; Hanja: 崔勝鉉; born November 4, 1987), known by his stage name TOP and initially known as Tempo, is a South Korean rapper, singer, actor, composer, designer and model, known for having been the rapper and vocalist of the K-pop boy band BIGBANG.

Before joining YG Entertainment, Seung Hyun was an underground rapper under the name Tempo; he is childhood friends with G-Dragon. They were “neighborhood friends since middle school” and often danced and rapped together. Although G-Dragon later moved away and the two “grew apart,” they got in touch again when Seung Hyun was among the candidates to form a boy band at YG Entertainment. The two recorded several demos and sent them to Yang Hyun Suk, CEO of YG Entertainment.
