The future rock and roll star was born on July 23, 1965 in London. Saul Hudson (the musician's real name) was born into a creative family and has been in the celebrity circle since childhood. His mother, Ola Hudson, was an African-American costume designer and worked with John Lennon, Ringo Starr, Janis Joplin, Diana Ross. His father Anthony Hudson was an artist who painted music album covers, among other things. Among his clients were, for example, Neil Young and Joni Mitchell. When Slash was 5 years old, his family moved to Los Angeles, where, by the way, they settled right next door to Joni Mitchell. In 1974, the musician's parents divorced, he stayed with his mother, and since then, according to his own words, he has turned into a problem child. Saul Hudson got his famous stage name from actor Seymour Cassel, known for his roles in films by John Cassavetes and Wes Anderson. The boy was friends with his son Matthew. With this nickname, Cassel emphasized the restlessness and hyperactivity of the young man — from English slashing. After his father left, one of his mother's lovers was... David Bowie, with whom she also worked for a while as a costume designer. The boy, who was apprehensive and had not yet survived his parents' divorce, did not really like his mother's new man. At the age of five, he played the role of a drummer in a school play. He received his first guitar as a gift from his grandmother on his fifteenth birthday. Slash began his musical career at the age of 16, when his first band, Tidus Sloan, was formed. A couple of years later, he met the future members of Guns N’ Roses: he created the Road Crew, named after the song Motorhead. Steve Adler had already been his friend since childhood, and Duff McKagan responded to a newspaper ad about recruiting musicians. At the same time, he came up with a riff that would later become the Guns N' Roses song "Rocket Queen".

After the breakup of Road Crew, he and Adler joined the Hollywood Rose team, where they met Axl Rose and Izzy Stradlin. As a teenager, Slash dabbled in theft. Once, for example, he stole a chameleon.
