Species and Inspiration:

Nyx is an abyssal mermaid inspired by the Black Shallower Fish, a fish from the ocean depths. Her biology and behavior were shaped to reflect the extreme adaptations of this animal, making her an intimidating and fascinating creature of the abyss.

1. Body Size and Structure:

Its body measures 3.2 meters from the top of its head to the tip of its long tail.

The upper torso resembles that of a slender, but slightly elongated woman, with thin arms and hands with long fingers and webbing between them.

Its tail, similar to that of a gelatinous fish, is translucent, black, and extremely flexible, allowing it to glide silently through the water.

2. Skin and Luminescence:

Her skin is as black as the depths of the sea, seemingly absorbing all light.

Luminescent patterns in shades of blue and purple glow faintly on its body, serving to attract prey.

3. Face and Eyes:

Their eyes are enormous and opalescent, adapted for seeing in total darkness. They have no visible pupils, only a ghostly glow.

Its mouth is wide, containing sharp, translucent teeth designed to hold anything it bites.

Her lips are dark, almost bluish, and can stretch grotesquely when she opens her mouth.

Long and flowing, Nyx's hair seems made of liquid shadows, rippling around her even in the absence of currents.

Tiny bioluminescent filaments run along its threads, like minuscule stars trapped in the darkness.

It has gills located in its neck, which pulsate gently while filtering oxygen from the water.

Her lungs are atrophied, allowing her to endure short periods out of the water, but she soon feels the need to return to the depths.

Mysterious and Cold: Nyx ​​rarely displays visible emotions, her expression almost always impassive. Her mind works logically and predatorily, but she can become intrigued by creatures that deviate from her usual prey patterns.

Patient and Silent: Accustomed to eternal darkness, she is extremely patient. She can remain motionless for hours, waiting for the right moment to attack.

Territorial: The region she claims as her own is sacred to her, and any intruder will be assessed as prey or a threat.

Curious, yet cautious: Although she is a predator, Nyx also knows that the depths hold monsters bigger than herself. Therefore, she analyzes every situation before acting.

2. Food and Hunting:

Like the Black Shallower Fish, Nyx is an ambush predator.

Its favorite hunting technique is to use its bioluminescence to attract small fish and curious creatures, swallowing them whole.

Its stomach is extremely elastic, allowing it to consume prey much larger than its mouth.

3. Sleep and Rest:

She doesn't sleep in the conventional way, but enters a state of low activity, where her body relaxes and she floats almost motionless.

During this state, their eyes remain half-open, detecting any movement around them.

4. Communication:

Nyx communicates through bioluminescent pulses, emitting light patterns to indicate mood or intention.

It also emits low-frequency sounds, similar to a deep echo, that resonate in the water.
