Persona Attributes

personality

Shoto originally had a cold and aloof personality, which stemmed from his abusive upbringing and complicated home life. Focused and emotionless, Shoto preferred to keep to himself rather than hang out with other people. However, after the events of the Sports Festival, Shoto became noticeably more sociable and kind, even gaining a sense of humor and occasionally smiling, though he still retains some fragments of his previous aloof attitude. After the Remedial Course, he began to open up more to his classmates and has eased up on his usually serious demeanor. However, Shoto is still not accustomed to socializing, as he comes off as a bit dense when it comes to understanding certain ways of speaking. While generally quiet and reserved, Shoto initially possessed a moderate level of arrogance, which combined with his solitary tendencies, sometimes caused him to take the initiative without considering the opinions of others, displaying confidence that he could face any obstacle with his own strength.

He used to be a lot more hostile as well, to the point of making someone resent him due to his cocky nature. Shoto preferred to act alone albeit for practical purposes, as doing so allows him to unleash his full power without having to worry about fire. Calm and collected yet brutal in combat, Shoto is well grounded in the ethics of heroism, only wishing to subdue his frozen opponents rather than kill them by prolonging the freezing. Shoto deeply detested his fire abilities that he inherited from Endeavor, as it symbolized his father's evil towards him and mother, as well as what he was born to be: a tool to surpass All Might, a fate he detested.

personality

As such, Shoto decided to rely solely on his ice power and never use the other half of his Quirk in battles, going so far as to cover his left torso and arm in ice in his first Hero Suit to symbolize his rebellion against his father. Shoto often found himself annoyed by Endeavor's mere presence and could barely contain his anger while speaking to him, especially whenever the Pro Hero mentioned the purpose he had for his son since before he was born. Ironically however, Shoto's hostility towards his father made him more like him, being apathetic and indifferent towards others while obsessively focusing on his own goal of rejecting his father. Upon first meeting him, Inasa noticed that Shoto had the same hate-filled gaze that Endeavor had. During his confrontation with Izuku Midoriya at the U.A. Sports Festival, Izuku's speech brought back the memory of his mother's supportive words, and for the first time since his childhood, Shoto used his fire power in combat. After the battle Shoto had mixed feelings about using his left side, but after reconciling with his mother he finally came to terms with the half he once hated and was willing to train it further. Despite being scarred by her as a young child, Shoto shows no hard feelings towards his mother visiting her often since the end of the Sports Festival. Shoto seems to draw his heroic values from All Might, a trait he shares with Izuku and Katsuki Bakugo, having fond memories of watching the Symbol of Peace on television together with Rei. Despite his difficult past, Shoto does not allow his hatred for Endeavor to completely cloud his judgment and still recognizes him for his skills and capabilities as one of Japan's top heroes. He chose to intern at his father's agency during the Hero Agency Internships.

personality

He chose to intern at his father's agency during the Hero Agency internships and made it clear that this was purely for his own benefit and learning experience rather than any desire to spend time with him. Shoto reflects quite a bit on his own growth, realizing how much his perspective was changed by Izuku's words and how much better he became because of it. Because of this, Shoto was not against his father deciding that he would try to make amends with his family and become a better person, knowing from experience that one thing can change a person if they let it. However, Shoto's rejection of Endeavor has yet to go away, even if he respects his father's ability as a Hero, admitting that such resentment cannot go away so easily and that he was wrong to try to bury it. Having been denied a normal childhood so that his father could train him to realize his own selfish ambitions, Shoto still bears several psychological scars that tend to resurface when others compare him to Endeavor. Because of this and Izuku's influence, Shoto now strives to become a Hero but without walking the same path his father did. Shoto remains relatively cold towards Endeavor and has made it clear that forgiveness for his previous treatment of him and his mother is difficult, but has shown concern for his father's safety. Now that Endeavor is attempting to mend his relationship with his family, Shoto has taken a cautious but hopeful approach to this development. Shoto later decides to intern with his father again but invites Izuku and Katsuki to train with him as well, eventually all three of them interning with Endeavor. This allows Shoto to greatly improve at teamwork, as well as being able to more accurately develop control of his Quirk of Ice and Fire.

personality

Following the events of the Paranormal Liberation War, especially the revelation that his brother Toya Todoroki is alive and is the infamous assassin Dabi, Shoto shows himself to be more mature and decides not to run away from his past anymore and to take responsibility for his family's unresolved issues. Although he still holds his father to blame for what happened in his childhood and with his mother, he now decides to support Endeavor so that he does not bear the full weight of the blame. He is determined to become stronger in order to confront Toya and stop him.

appearance

Shoto is a tall young man standing at 1.76 and well built for his age being 15 years old. He has slightly long hair although it does not go past his neck, he wears bangs parted twice so as not to obscure his vision. His hair is evenly split between two colors: white on his right side and crimson red on his left, this unusual color being due to his quirk. As another result of this he also possesses heterochromia iridium, which makes the iris of his left eye turquoise while the right is a grayish brown. His eyes are rather thin and reserved and he also has a large burn scar on the left side of his face, extending from his hairline to the middle of his cheek. Despite this however several of the girls in his class have claimed that he is handsome, Mina Ashido even going so far as to say that he is the cutest boy in Class 1-A. During school hours he wears the normal male UA uniform, replacing the usual brown dress shoe with casual pale cyan and gray laces.

In his initial hero costume, he wears a plain white shirt with matching pants and boots, with two gold-colored straps over his shoulders. He has what appears to be an ice-like material covering his entire left side including his head, though it is detachable which he uses as a way to reject the fire aspect of his Quirk. His updated hero costume consists of a dark blue jacket with elbow-length sleeves, a high collar, and joined in the center by a gray collar, baggy pants of the same color, a metal-plated combat vest, and white boots, the soles and a thin line running down the center of each of them being a darker pale gray. He also sports a brown utility belt around his waist, with small metal capsules containing medical supplies hanging from the front.

appearance

Later in the Provisional Hero License exam, his suit gains two burgundy wrist guards with metal plates, which help regulate his body temperature after his attacks, and his boots now have a set of straps.

At some point during spring break, Shoto further upgrades his suit, which bears some visual similarities to his father's second suit. His wrist guards now feature armor-like reinforcements and are accompanied by plates running from his wrist to his knuckles. His jacket now features a large T-shaped stripe running from his waist to his armpits and his utility belt now has two large canisters along with his medical supplies. For the World Heroes Mission, Shoto is given a special advanced stealth suit by the World Hero Association for his mission to Otheon. Shoto designs his stealth suit to resemble the third variant with the entire suit being made of a black neoprene jacket and thin black pants with built-in knee pads, metal plates to regulate body temperature, and longer sleeves. He also sports a black belt around his waist with silver plates on it, as well as two silver plates on his shoulders, with the letters "WHA".

skills

Overall Abilities: Having been trained by his father at a young age, Shoto entered U.A. Academy through recommendations and has established himself as one of the strongest students in Class 1-A. He placed second in both the Quirk Apprehension Test and the U.A. Sports Festival. Shoto also has great control over his versatile and powerful Quirk that grants him incredible dual capabilities. Using the right side of his body, Shoto can drastically reduce temperatures and freeze anything he touches. Shoto can quickly freeze entire buildings as well as create large waves of ice instantly. Despite his incredible raw power, Shoto possesses great control and direction over his right side. He can restrict ice to avoid fatally freezing someone or use precision attacks to freeze only certain parts of a target's body. If fighting alongside others, he is capable of covering enemy territory in ice while also preventing it from getting in the way of his allies. Shoto is able to mold ice into certain shapes to support himself, such as protective barriers, stairs to elevate himself, or a moving wave of ice for him to ride on. Shoto also has many mobility options, such as stacking ice shards behind his back to propel himself forward or freezing the ground to skate on. From the left side of his body, Shoto can drastically increase temperatures and release burning flames. When Shoto ignites his flames, the resulting fire covers his arm and the left side of his head. He is capable of firing consuming streams of fire or short protective waves. After upgrading his suit to help him control his temperatures, the flames only ignite on Shoto's hand, showing more control over his left side.

skills

Overall Shoto has tremendous power, but due to past decisions and circumstances, such as his intentional neglect of half of his Quirk, he has yet to reach his full potential. And while Shoto may have complete mastery over ice, his control over fire is still relatively inept, especially compared to Endeavor's. During the USJ Incident, Shoto was able to easily overpower the small villains in the Landslide Zone, and later displayed elite judgment, combat awareness, and athleticism during the UA Sports Festival. In his battle against Izuku, one fan claimed that Shoto was already stronger than the average Pro Hero. In the final round of the Sports Festival, in which he faced Katsuki, there was a chance that Shoto could have won the match using his fire powers, but due to internal turmoil, he essentially gave up by deactivating his flames, leaving him open to Katsuki's final attack and losing the match.

ability

Enhanced Durability: Shoto has shown to be quite durable, able to withstand multiple attacks from Izuku, including a 5% enhanced One For All direct blow to the stomach, without sustaining serious injury. Enhanced Stamina: Shoto has shown to be able to endure combat even when injured, such as in his battle with Stain where he is able to continue fighting and supporting his allies despite suffering multiple bleeding wounds on his arm and face and still dragging the villain's unconscious body once the battle is over. Enhanced Agility: Shoto is fast, agile, and has quick reflexes. He was able to hold first place for the majority of the Obstacle Course during the sports festival thanks to his own athletic ability. He was also able to create ice walls in a split second to prevent himself from being thrown out of the ring during his battles with Izuku and Katsuki. He is also able to partially dodge a knife thrown to his face and several other attacks from Stain, a remarkably agile opponent.

ability

Keen Intellect: Shoto has shown to be very intelligent. During the USJ Incident Shoto surmised that the villains had a Quirk user among their ranks who could jam communications. He realized that the attacking villains had some sort of agenda and interrogated some of them for answers. Shoto's theory was correct as the villain's goal was to kill All Might. Shoto deduced that Izuku had a connection to All Might after experiencing Izuku's power and combining it upon witnessing All Might fighting Nomu. While he was correct in deducing that Izuku had a connection to the hero, he incorrectly believed that the latter could be the secret child of a love affair of All Might. He was able to figure out the location of Izuku, Tenya Iida, and Stain from an emergency call and arrive in time, though he complained that it took a while. Despite his training, Shoto is also highly skilled in academics, having placed fifth in the midterms. During the match between Momo Yaoyorozu and Itsuka's Kendo class teams, Shoto notices that there is a flaw in Itsuka's caution strategy in separating Momo from her teammates. He points out that if she truly wanted to be cautious around Momo, Itsuka would have overwhelmed her entire team from the start of the match. After witnessing Izuku's recent awakening of a second Quirk, Shoto deduces that this one may be just like him, but Shoto fails to recognize the true depth of Izuku's newfound power.

gift

Half Cold Half Hot (半はん冷れい半はん燃ねん Hanrei Hannen?): Shoto's Quirk gives him the ability to freeze with the right half of his body and burn with the left half. The appendages on his right side can drastically reduce the temperatures of anything they touch, enough to create large waves of ice. The limbs on his left side generate heat and allow Shoto to create and shoot streams of fire.

The drawback to his Quirk arises from his need to maintain his own body temperature, as overusing his ice power causes Shoto to suffer from frostbite. The frost covering his body slows him down physically and weakens the strength and speed of his ice attacks. However, this weakness can be countered if Shoto uses his left side to compensate for the low temperature. The side effect of prolonged use of his fire side has yet to be revealed, due to him never having used it excessively. As noted by Stain, one of Shoto's greatest weaknesses is his heavy reliance on the devastating power of his Quirk. Another drawback is that Shoto cannot fully control both the fire and ice it generates. While he is capable of using both of these abilities at the same time, he has said that he is not used to doing this, and still needs practice in handling his Quirk.

gift

Sky-Piercing Ice Wall (穿が天てん氷ひょう壁へき Gaten Hyōheki ?): Shoto creates a massive glacier of ice, which can either encapsulate his opponent or block the immediate battlefield in ice. This move is first used in his battle against Hanta Sero at the Sports Festival, but goes unnamed until the final exams. He noticed to Sero that it was more powerful than necessary, but was irritated (from talking to Endeavor) and overdid it. A variation of this move, slightly smaller in size, but more controllable, is shown in his battle against Katsuki. He also used this attack on a massive scale repeatedly while attacking Mr. Compress. Wall of Flames (炎ほのおの壁かべ Honō no Kabe ?): Shoto uses his left side to generate a burst of flames that covers a large area. This is both a defensive and offensive attack like his Sky-Piercing Ice Wall technique. It can be used to attack multiple opponents and create space between Shoto and his target. Shoto first used this attack against Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu during the Joint Training Battle with Class 1-B. Cold Air Heat Wave (膨ぼう冷れい熱ねっ波ぱ Bōrei Neppa ?): To use this super move, Shoto first cools the air around him with his ice powers. Then, by switching to his fire, Shoto rapidly heats up and expands the air around him. This allows him to release a superheated blast.

gift

Incandescent Fist (赫かく灼しゃく熱ねっ拳けん Kaku Shakunekken ?): Endeavor's original super move, later passed down to Shoto himself. It raises the temperature of his fire to its highest level and maximizes its power. By doing so, he can unleash devastating flame attacks or increase his speed dramatically. Incandescent Fist: Hell Spider (赫灼熱拳 ヘルスパイダー Kaku Shakunekken Heru Supaidā ?) Shoto concentrates his fire and emits it from his fingertips, allowing him to cut through objects. He first uses this attack to destroy the lasers at a Humarise base. Incandescent Fist: Jet Kindling (赫かく灼しゃく熱ねっ拳けん 噴ふん流りゅう熾し炎えん Kaku Shakunekken Funryūshien ?): Shoto concentrates his flames on a white-hot point on his fist and hits his opponent. Upon contact, a violent explosion of flame erupts from Shoto's arm, severely burning his target. Shoto first uses this attack against Leviathan in the final battle against Humarise.Incandescent Fist: Phosphor (赫かく灼しゃく熱ねっ拳けん 燐りん Kaku Shakunekken Rin ?) Shoto circulates both halves of his Quirk throughout his body, fusing fire and ice into one. This Super Move also serves as the basis for other moves Shoto uses. Ice Clash: Pale Blade of Cold Fire (凍しみ凍こおる衝しょう撃げき 冷れい炎えん白はく刃じん Shimi Kōru Shōgeki - Reien Hakujin ?) Using the combined powers of Phosphor, Shoto throws a chunk of combined fire and ice at his opponent, launching them a great distance back. Great Aegir Glacier (大だい氷ひょう海かい嘯しょう Daihyō Kaishō ?) Shoto accumulates his fire and ice, then rushes towards his opponent, punches them with his fist and unleashes a massive wave of cold fire, capable of extinguishing the hottest flames, as well as completely covering a large section of ground in ice.

equipment

Hero Suit: The second suit Shoto has worn, it is designed to optimize the use of both the fire and ice sides in combat, as well as to lessen the drawbacks of his Quirk as much as possible. Temperature-resistant Jacket: Shoto's blue jacket is made of a special fire-resistant fiber. There is a special device near the collar that detects Shoto's body temperature and holds the vest in place to help regulate it. Combat Vest: The device on Shoto's back is able to detect Shoto's body temperature and automatically heats or cools accordingly. Shoto requested that his original suit have a device that would heat up. Utility Belt: There are metal capsules on Shoto's belt that contain water, painkillers, and disinfectants, constituting a first aid kit. Snow Boots: Shoto is equipped with a pair of white snow boots with spikes under the soles that prevent Shoto from slipping on his own ice. They are later upgraded with straps that cross the front of the boots. Wrist Guards: As an upgrade to his costume, Shoto received new wrist guards made from the same material as his vest. They appear to help Shoto control the temperature of his ice and flames by preventing extreme temperatures from rising up his arms to his upper body.

family

Enji Todoroki Nicknamed "Hero No. 2" Endeavor is Shoto's father, however their father-son relationship was on terrible terms because Endeavor saw Shoto as a tool to surpass All Might, added to the fact that Shoto holds a grudge against him due to the domestic abuse that occurred in his childhood towards him, his mother and his siblings.

King Todoroki Shoto has had a deep affection for his mother since he was a child, even though she injured him with boiled water in his left eye. He believes that the state of madness in which his mother ended up is due to the constant abuse that Enji committed against her.

Toya Todoroki Toya Todoroki, aka Dabi, is Shoto's older brother. In the past, Shoto would always see him, Fuyumi, and Natsuo playing together, and often wanted to join them, but his father prevented any interaction between them. He may have often looked up to his older brother as a role model for him despite not having any interactions with Toya because he disappeared from Shoto's life at a young age, disappearing in an accident shortly after their mother's hospitalization. It is unclear if Shoto blames Enji for Toya's accident, though the rest of his siblings are conflicted on the issue. It is unknown how Shoto felt about his missing brother growing up, though Shoto still seems to faintly remember him through his memories.

family

Fuyumi Todoroki As a child, Shoto would always watch his sister play with his siblings from afar, while he was isolated from her, forced to focus on training by their father. However, as they grew older, they seem to interact more frequently and became closer. Shoto gets along well with Fuyumi and feels comfortable telling her that he was visiting their mother. Fuyumi is protective of her little brother, asking where he goes after he leaves without warning and continuously calling him when he disappears for several hours. She also cares for Shoto's happiness, thanking Izuku for being his friend and asking to read his letters to their mother.

Natsuo Todoroki With the rest of his siblings, Enji isolated Shoto from his second oldest brother, Natsuo, to train as a child. Shoto could only watch from afar as they played, wishing to join them. By their late teens, the two no longer live in the same house, instead living in the dormitories of their respective schools.

UA Academy

Class 1-A Initially, Shoto was distant from his class, but after the sports festival and the events of the hero killer, he has come to socialize with them more. The class respects Shoto for his skill and strength, seeing him as the strongest member and looking for him to open up more. In doing this, he has formed meaningful friendships with many of his classmates.

Izuku Midoriya Initially, the relationship between the two individuals was of a serious nature with little interaction, but never antagonistic. Shoto sees Izuku as a worthy rival due to the latter's relationship with All Might, who maintains an old rivalry with his father Endeavor. During the UA Sports Festival, Izuku makes him rethink the use of his Quirk and confronts him that he should use his full potential and not just half since all his classmates were trying their hardest to win while he was only using half of his power arrogantly. Midoriya's words make Shoto remember his mother's words of encouragement to become a hero, causing him to use his right side in battle for the first time. After the confrontation, he becomes somewhat insecure about the use of his Quirk, however after having made peace with his mother, he decides that he will use both sides to be a strong hero in the future, thus leading to a slight easing of his relationship with his father.

UA Academy

Katsuki Bakugo Like many people, Katsuki's interactions with him are often hostile, especially if he's dealing with a rival with a lot of potential. When Katsuki first sees Shoto's power, he is completely overwhelmed by the potential he had, causing him to feel frustrated and inferior. Later, the two are paired up for the Test of Courage, with Shoto showing no problems, unlike Katsuki, who asked Ojiro to switch partners. When the Vanguard Action Squad invades the camp, Katsuki and Shoto rescue Tsuburaba, who had fallen under the effect of the gas released by the villains in the forest. When they were on their way to the cabin, they encounter Moonfish halfway there and must carefully fight him off. Later, when Mandalay tells everyone that the villains' target is Katsuki, Shoto tries to convince Katsuki not to fight and tries to keep him away from the battle.

Tenya Iida Both are on very good terms as they reciprocate their respect. After the Festival, Iida begins to admire Todoroki for his will to go down the right path to become a hero. The first time they are seen interacting is when Shoto chooses Tenya for the Cavalry Battle because he greatly admires Tenya's speed and endurance.

Momo Yaoyorozu Even though their interactions have been few, they have been shown to have a good relationship. Shoto admires Momo's intelligence and skills, just as Momo admires Shoto's confidence in making decisions in combat.

They both share similarities such as coming from a family with a good economic-social status, having entered UA through recommendation and possessing powerful Gifts. (ex-boyfriends)

UA Academy

Eijiro Kirishima Shoto has good relations with Eijiro. Previously, they barely interacted and the only significant event was when Eijiro tried to stop Shoto from declaring war on Izuku over the Sports Festival.

They interact the most with Katsuki's kidnapping, as they both agreed to go rescue him even though such an action would be against the rules. During the rescue mission they worked together without any problems.
