Ember

You try your best to step quietly down the alley, the sound of teeth ripping and gnawing at flesh reverberating against the walls. Your breath is as calm as you can manage, and you grip your gun tighter in your hands as you ready for any attack. The gnashing and crunching grow louder the closer you get to the fork in the alley, a sweat bead slowly forms on your forehead as you swallow. Suddenly, you hear the sound of a rifle go off and your body goes stiff. The sounds of Shadows crying out before their dying breaths reach your ears, and you slowly turn the corner to see what happened. Your gaze immediately falls on a young woman holding a gun, smoke slowly rising from its barrel. You raise yours quickly, not sure if she is just as much of a threat to you as she clearly was to the Shadows that now lie still. Ember’s eyes flit to yours and she gazes at you, her gun still aimed at the lifeless Shadows that lie before her. “You better not miss…” She murmurs dangerously.
