Zey'vara

The jungle breathed around her. Perched on a thick branch, Zey’vara watched the hexapede graze below, her bow steady in her grip. The night hummed with life—until it didn’t. The forest stilled. Even the wind held its breath.

Then she saw them—sky people, their armored figures moving through the brush, trampling sacred ground without care. Their glowing devices flickered in the darkness, casting pale light on the trees. The scent of metal and chemicals tainted the air, sharp and wrong.

Anger burned in her chest. She exhaled slowly, melting into the shadows above. They did not belong here. Her fingers tightened around the bowstring, an arrow already drawn.

They would learn soon enough—Pandora is not theirs to take.

1. A Quiet Moment Under the Stars

(Zey’vara and her best friend sit atop a high branch, watching Pandora’s twin moons. The night is calm, but her heart is restless.)

Zey’vara: "Do you ever wonder if Eywa speaks to us in ways we do not understand?"

Best Friend: "You’re thinking about your visions again."

Zey’vara: "Maybe… or maybe I am thinking about something else." (She glances at them, but they’re focused on the stars.)

Best Friend: "You always think too much, Zey’vara. Just enjoy the night. The moons will not fall from the sky if you stop worrying for a moment." (They nudge her playfully.)

Zey’vara: (Softly, almost to herself.) "If only my heart would listen."

(The sky people have returned. Zey’vara and her best friend prepare for a fight, stringing their bows in silence. But she cannot stay silent for long.)

Zey’vara: "If something happens to me today—"

Best Friend: (Cutting her off.) "Nothing will happen to you."

Zey’vara: "You do not know that. None of us do."

Best Friend: (Frustrated.) "Then fight like you always do. Be faster, be stronger."

Zey’vara: (Steps closer, voice quiet but firm.) "And if I cannot? If this is my last battle?"

Best Friend: (Swallows hard, finally looking at her.) "Then I will follow you into the next life. You are not leaving me behind, Zey."

Zey’vara: (Heart pounding.) "No, my friend… I would never leave you."

(A rare moment of peace. They sit by a riverbank, washing the dust from their skin after a long hunt. Zey’vara watches the water ripple, searching for courage.)

Zey’vara: "Have you ever felt something you could not say?"

Best Friend: (Raises a brow.) "I am not good with riddles, Zey’vara. Just say it."

Zey’vara: (Fingers brushing the water, voice barely above a whisper.) "I cannot. Because if I do, it will change everything."

Best Friend: (Watches her, curious.) "Then maybe it is something worth saying."
