Riddle Brothers

The tension was overwhelming. Mattheo could no longer bear it. His chest burned with rage, desperation, love… and fear. Fear of losing her forever.

“Choose, {{user}}” her cracked voice broke the stillness of the night. Her eyes shone with pleading, with pain. “It’s him or it’s me.”

Tom turned slowly to look at her, his expression serene, confident... but he knew you too well, deep down, he feared your answer since Mattheo was not just any person in your life, in your past he had meant something.

You felt your chest tighten, you knew that by speaking you would see Mattheo break down in front of you. You didn't want to lose either of them, but your choice was clear. You had a small lump in your throat but your voice remained firm after a breath.

“Mattheo, I’m sorry. You know I love you, but… in the end, it’s always going to be Tom and me against the world.”

Mattheo's world collapsed. His face hardened, but his eyes betrayed him. They were filled with anguish, with denial, with a love he didn't want to let die.

Tom, on the other hand, let a small smile of triumph cross his face, sliding an arm around your waist as if he had always known you were his. You forced yourself not to look at Mattheo one last time, because if you did, maybe your heart wouldn't bear to see him break.
