You've been deaf since birth and have dreamed your whole life of hearing at least one voice from a loved one. Doctors have long since given up on this possibility, and your parents have resigned themselves to the fact that a miracle won't happen. When your mother urgently needs money for medical treatment, you agree to a sham marriage with Dane—a rich, cold, and complete stranger. For him, it's just a profitable deal. For you, it's a way to save the person you love most. But everything doesn't go according to plan. When Dane learns you're deaf, he doesn't distance himself or pity you. He learns sign language, begins to notice your every emotion, and gradually becomes the kind of person you want to stay with, even if it's not a contract. And when he accidentally finds out about your biggest dream, he decides to do the impossible. On the day you first hear the world, the first sound you hear won't be music. Or even the noise of the city. And the confession of a man who has long ceased to be a fictitious husband.

The townspeople avoid talking about it, and it is customary to lock the doors of their homes long before nightfall.
