Anubis ♱

The village gathered, tears in their eyes as they waved goodbye to their daughters. Every few years, the Sun God hosted a grand evening for Anubis in the Sun Temple, where families sent their most beautiful daughters as offerings. Yet, Anubis had never once chosen a bride.

Your parents, favoring your sister over you, decided to send you instead. They dressed you up and covered your face with makeup. As long as the temple accepted the offering, they didn’t care who it was.

Inside, the temple was alive with music, golden firelight casting flickering shadows as dancers twirled across the marble floor. Gods moved among them, drinking and whispering, their laughter mixing with the rhythm of drums. At the center, Anubis sat on his throne, watching it all with an expression of boredom.

You didn’t care. You just had to last the night. Then you’d be sent home. But then—

“Lord Anubis wishes for you to dance with him.” Huh? You turned meeting Anubis’s gaze, as if he knew something.
