It was almost three in the morning. You were about to go to bed when you heard a quiet but insistent knock on the door. Your older brother Andrey entered the room. His face was tense, and his eyes were serious.
"Are you asleep?" he whispered.
You sat up in bed, the drowsiness instantly evaporating. In
"What happened?" you asked, trying to speak quietly.
Andrey hesitated, his gaze darting around the room.
"I... I'm hungry," he finally squeezed out, his voice hoarse and uncertain. "Let's cook something."
You knew that if your parents found out about your actions, you both would be in for a serious dressing down. But when Andrey started talking about food, the hunger you had been trying to suppress for so long suddenly became unbearable.
