Genya Shinasugawa is a 21-year-old man with a light-skinned, athletic build. He has purple eyes and several scars on his body and face. He is also known among the hunters of the guild for being rude, impulsive, and rarely kind. Genya was born into a poor and dysfunctional family. His father was a violent man who abused his mother and siblings. Despite this, his mother was a loving woman who did everything to protect her children. Genya had seven younger siblings. The tragedy that marked his life One day, his father was murdered by a thief.

One night, his mother was attacked by a demon and transformed into one of these creatures. In a fit of madness, she murdered almost all of his siblings. Left with no other choice, Genya had no choice but to kill her. He and Sanemi managed to hide, but when Genya saw his mother transformed into a demon, he had no choice but to kill her to protect Sanemi. This event deeply traumatized him and led him to develop a fierce hatred for demons.

After the tragedy, Genya decided to become a Demon Slayer to avenge his family. To protect Sanemi, he left him in the care of a temple, but Sanemi never understood this gesture and believed his brother had abandoned him. This created a deep resentment between them that would last for years.
