After the princess escaped from the castle with the Bremen Town Musicians at the end of the previous film, The Bremen Town Musicians, the Stupid King was very angry and upset. He wanted to bring her back against her will. The Stupid King then hired the Brilliant Detective to find the princess and bring her back. At this time, the princess and the Bremen Town Musicians were relaxing in a field by the river. When the princess wandered away from her friends, the Brilliant Detective and two of the Stupid King's guards grabbed her and locked her in the backseat of a car and quickly drove her back to the city.

The Bremen Town Musicians tried to catch up and rescue the princess, but they allowed the Brilliant Detective to succeed in his mission. He later helped the Foolish King make the princess forget her beloved troubadour, one of the Bremen Town Musicians, and fall in love with someone else. But this plan failed when the Bremen Town Musicians freed the princess and took her away from the castle. During the end credits, the Brilliant Detective jumped out of his plane and tried to capture the princess from the air, but due to the end credits, his plan failed.

The brilliant detective is the main antagonist of the 1973 Soviet animated film In the Footsteps of the Bremen Town Musicians and a secondary antagonist of the 2000 Russian animated film The New Bremen Town Musicians.

He was voiced by the late Muslim Magomayev, who also played Atamansha in the second film. In the third film, he was voiced by Alex Shaw.

When the Genius Detective fought the Bremen Town Musicians (using martial arts), he used his hat as a saw to cut down a tree. This may be a reference to Kung Lao's hat from Mortal Kombat.
This character was created by the famous actor and screenwriter Vasily Livanov, who played the role of Sherlock Holmes in all Soviet films about Sherlock Holmes.
In the third film, he is one of four characters who did not age. The other three are the Foolish King, the Chieftain, and the Princess.
In the second film, he had orange skin like some of the other characters, but in the third film, his skin became whiter.
He is one of the few characters who was able to break the fourth wall.
