Master Tengen

Appearance Due to the nature of Tengen's role in the jujutsu world, most people have no idea what they look like. Only those granted permission have seen that Tengen does not quite possess the appearance of a typical human being. Tengen has four eyes with a cylinder-shaped head that features no hair at all, but they do possess a bipedal humanoid body. They wear a simple light-colored robe.

As stated by Tengen, due to Toji Fushiguro killing the previous Star Plasma Vessel 12 years ago and preventing Tengen from merging with it, Tengen's current appearance is the result of them continuing to "evolve" past their humanity. Tengen originally possessed a much more human appearance.

Personality Tengen appears to be a well-mannered, straightforward, and well-known individual with the best interests of humanity at heart. They don't seem to mind awkward questions about their experience and are more than happy to help normal jujutsu sorcerers provided the situation is right.

Tengen was willing to do all they could to help Yuji and the others stop Kenjaku, but in return asked that two members of his team remain behind to protect them as well. They were stern about this point, but only because Tengen's own safety is the key to humanity's survival.

As shown from their previous mission to protect their Star Plasma Vessel, Tengen also has a softer and kinder side. It was seen where they ordered Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto to respect and accommodate Riko Amanai's wishes and decisions as the time for her fusion rapidly approached, even if those wishes made their job of protecting her more difficult. This hinted that Tengen sympathized with her, remorseful about the necessity of their situation and the burden it placed on her, and wanted to at least respect her final wishes before essentially killing her.

Overall skill level: Tengen are seen as immortal entities and a pillar of security within the jujutsu community, not fighters or those who interact with the daily functions of the world. Tengen skills are essential to the structure and organization of jujutsu society. They have existed for centuries and are responsible for teaching the foundations of jujutsu that eventually evolved into the modern-day culture surrounding it.

Tengen dispelling Kenjaku's Domain. Tengen is the most potent barrier user among all jujutsu sorcerers, even superior to Kenjaku. Tengen created and maintained four pure barriers that improved cursed spirit suppression and the barriers cast by Jujutsu High assistant managers.[3] However, Tengen is a non-combat and doesn't use jujutsu for fighting. As much as combat, Kenjaku told his allies to consider Tengen a non-factor. Though it was believed that Tengen could pose a threat to humanity once they evolved and their sense of self diminished, Tengen maintained their self-awareness through force of will and barriers.[4]

Tengen requested strong sorcerers for protection because they are a non-combatant.[5] Even so, Tengen supported the fortunate knights in battle. Tengen contributed to Yuki and Choso's fight against Kenjaku by manipulating the empty barriers that served as the setup. Tengen, Yuki, and Choso strategized for the encounter beforehand, and the latter contributed to the current fight by dispensing his empty barriers to destroy Kenjaku's domain. Tengen also served as a distraction where they could have orders to give Yuki and Choso any possible advantage.

Great Tactical Intellect: Tengen is a wise being with a vast wealth of knowledge, especially as it relates to jujutsu sorcery. It was around Tengen's planning that Megumi and her allies formulated their operation to rescue Tsumiki. Her group was able to gain all the necessary answers from Tengen and formulated a plan of action to combat the Culling Game.[6]

Tengen contributed most of the Yuki and Choso tactics employed during the fight with Kenjaku. Tengen accurately predicted that leading Kenjaku into an area made of barriers would make him comfortable and centered their plan around repeatedly surprising him to force him to expand his domain and burn out his cursed techniques.[7] When Kenjaku revealed his domain, Tengen immediately recognized that he possessed an open barrier just like Sukuna's. Tengen quickly adapted and assumed the edge of the guaranteed-hit area served as the outer shell and erased it along with his empty barrier.[8]

Innate Technique Immortality (不死ふし, Fushi?) grants Tengen eternal life, just as the name implies. It does not stop them from aging,[9] so their body and technique must be reset every five years.[10] In 2006, Tengen failed to merge with a Star Plasma Vessel and became involved with more of a stroked spirit than a human. They have maintained their self-awareness but their very self has become the world in a sense.[11]

Barrier Techniques Jujutsu High Barriers: There is a barrier at both Jujutsu High locations. It changes the appearance of the buildings' layout every day to hide the schools' existence from the public. These barriers are effective for hiding the school but not necessarily protecting it from infiltration. If an individual already knows the location of Jujutsu High beforehand, the barrier is not difficult to reach.[12][13]

Concealing Barriers: The entrance to the Tombs of the Star Corridor is protected by a barrier that manipulates over one thousand shuffling doors. The entrance is constantly changing while only one door is connected to the pathway leading to the tombs. Above this same pathway is the Jujutsu High warehouse that stores learned tools and learned objects.[14] Master Tengen's shrine itself is the base of all his barriers throughout Japan. The shrine is protected by a different barrier altogether that only allows those invited to enter.[15]

Pure Barriers: A superior type of barrier that increases the precision of Tengen's cursed spirit suppression and the barrier techniques cast by assistant managers from Jujutsu High. Four of them; the Imperial Palace, the Tombs of the Star, the Yamakuni Mausoleum, and Mt. Hida, are crucial to the jujutsu world.[17]
