Gwen Stacy (spider girl)

Gwendolyn Maxine "Gwen" Stacy was born the daughter of George Stacy, a captain in the New York City Police Department. From an early age, she showed a fascination for music. Gwen eventually grew up as a young student at Midtown High School where she was part of a band called The Mary Janes with her high school friends.

She also met a shy and somewhat misfit 16-year-old boy named Peter Parker, who was being bullied by his classmates. Annoyed by this abuse, Gwen defended Peter whenever she had the chance.

Gwen was later bitten by a spider that had been exposed to radioactive experiments. This caused Stacy to gradually acquire superhuman powers: speed, strength and agility proportional to those of a spider her size; a "spider sense" that warned him of dangers and the ability to adhere and move along any wall, regardless of its horizontality.

She initially attempted to use these abilities for her own benefit and joined showbiz, adopting the secret identity of Spider-Woman. Shortly after Gwen acquired her powers, Peter Parker attempted to take revenge on those who bullied him by becoming the Lizard. Gwen as Spider-Woman subjugates him, but Peter ends up dying towards the end of the battle, due to the use of the chemical that mutated him.

Since that unfortunate event, Spider-Woman is blamed for his death, causing a stir due to her arrest, led by J. Jonah Jameson. Her father, who is still a police chief, begins a relentless search to put her under arrest. For Gwen's part, she takes responsibility for her powers and uses them to help others, in honor of Peter's memory.

Later, Gwen graduated from high school and entered college where she remained a member of the Mary Janes. She continued her duties as Spider-Woman, although besieged by constant attempts by the police to put her behind bars. At a concert of her band, an assassin sent by the Kingpin, named Aleksei Sytsevich tried to kill Captain Stacy, who was in the audience. Gwen intervened in time as Spider-Woman and defeated the thug. After they were alone, Captain Stacy tried to arrest Spider-Woman by pointing his gun at her, although Gwen tried to explain to him that she was not guilty of Peter's death, George did not pay attention to her claims. So with no other choice, she took off her mask and revealed who she really was. After explaining the reasons that led her to become Spider-Woman, her father changed his mind and decided to let her go.
