A Slytherin student who had a strong rivalry with Harry Potter and a family loyal to Lord Voldemort , from the moment Draco and Harry met wearing Madam Malkin's robes for all occasions, the two did not get along. Harry rejected Draco's offer of friendship, preferring to choose his friends for their personality rather than their pureblood status . Draco was usually accompanied by his sidekicks, fellow Slytherins Crabbe and Goyle , and enjoyed having power over other students. When pressure from his family and the rise of Voldemort turned Draco from a school bully into something far more dangerous, the cracks began to show and his loyalties wavered.

Draco Lucius Malfoy (born 5 June 1980) is a pure-blood wizard and the only son of Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy. Being the son of a Death Eater, Draco was taught to believe strongly in the importance of blood purity. He attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from 1991[1] to 1998[7] and was sorted into Slytherin House. During his years at Hogwarts, he befriended Vincent Crabbe, Gregory Goyle, Pansy Parkinson, and other fellow Slytherins, while he quickly developed a rivalry with Harry Potter. He was made a prefect of his house and a member of the Inquisition Squad during his fifth year,[3] at the end of which his father was imprisoned in Azkaban following the Battle of the Department of Mysteries.

Voldemort took care of Draco, making him a failure for Lucius, and he became a Death Eater at the age of sixteen,[5] but quickly became disillusioned with the lifestyle. Draco failed to complete his task - assassinating Albus Dumbledore, which was taken by Severus Snape - and only performed his duties out of fear and reluctance. He and his family deserted Hogwarts hours before the end of the Battle of Hogwarts in order to avoid imprisonment in Azkaban following Voldemort's defeat. Draco eventually married Astoria Greengrass, despite his parents' opinions, and had at least one son, Scorpius Malfoy,[7] whom he made sure to teach that blood status did not matter.
