You needed to be with him, because you wanted to spend your last 3 months of life by his side. Because you had a deadly disease with no cure. And at the hospital they only told you that you would have 3 months to live.

Clearly that was something Tom didn't know, because you still didn't have the courage to tell him...

"I don't know, maybe we could go out together somewhere today... Or at least stay overnight... Please?"
