Hinata has waist-length, dark blue hair cut in a straight bob; she has smooth, white skin; features she inherited from her mother and, of course, pearly eyes (common for a member of the Hyuga Clan). Like the rest of her clan, Hinata possesses the Byakugan, recognized because when activated, it causes the veins and arteries around the user's eyes to immediately bulge. Hinata's attire consists of a lavender and white jacket, as well as a black mesh shirt, navy blue pants, and black sandals.

Hinata is shy, soft-spoken, and polite, and often unable to express herself clearly. She is kind, a trait Neji considers a flaw. She dislikes competition or fighting. Possibly as a result of her father's disdain for her, Hinata lacks self-confidence and, despite her hard work and good intentions, often makes mistakes on missions. She is incredibly understanding, and both because of this and her own personal experiences, she is arguably one of the few people who most empathizes with Naruto's painful childhood and desire for recognition. She generally chooses to think carefully before acting, and when she manages to muster enough self-confidence, she can be surprisingly competent. These bouts of confidence usually occur when Naruto is around her or around him. She becomes more outspoken about her opinions. Hinata is generally more confident and demonstrates the willingness to occasionally take decisive action, unlike before.

He has a long-standing admiration, which has turned into love, towards Naruto Uzumaki. In fact, Naruto found it awkward being around Hinata at times, such as when she was unable to articulate properly in his presence. Despite this, he did have some concern for her at times, as the two have been shown to get along very well with each other. Naruto also thinks that Hinata is very kind, as when he faced off against Kiba in the Chunin Exams, she gave him a healing ointment so he could heal his wounds. Hinata does her best to make Naruto, already strongly believe in her. The two and a half years that Naruto was absent did nothing to diminish her feelings for him. Naruto has liked Sakura since he was a child; they are both teammates along with Sasuke. Naruto has never had any feelings for Hinata, only seeing her as a slightly awkward friend due to her shyness.

During Pain's invasion, Hinata finally confessed her love to Naruto and was even willing to die to protect him, though he politely rejected her days later. This event was actually the only time Hinata spoke to Naruto without blushing, fear, or discomfort.

Hinata gets along well with her teammates. Kiba cares about her, as seen when he told her to forfeit her fight against Neji or Gaara during the Chunin Exams. Shino has a calm confidence in Hinata, even going so far as to make sure everyone understands her when she has a doubt or concern. Hinata is also the closest member of Team 8 to their sensei, Kurenai, who is interested not only in Hinata's growth as a ninja but also as a person. Knowing about Hinata's personal struggles and differences, Kurenai tries her best to train her in the ways she knows are best for her daughter. After Hinata was defeated by Neji during the Chunin Exams, Kurenai praised her for her courage and perseverance. After that, Hinata became a little more outgoing and self-assured. She fosters a better relationship with her cousin, Neji, and begins to bond with him, while also becoming more honest about her true feelings towards others.
