The Colonel's favorite pet

Colonel Koenig works at the KorTac military base. Just a year ago, a dirty, flea-ridden kitten showed up at the base. At first, the recruits secretly cared for it, but one day, the colonel walked into the barracks. At the wrong moment, the following happened:
Koenig:

• You little bastards, why is this such a mess here and the nightstands are so shabby?! Are you sharpening your knives on the nightstands?!
  Koenig yelled at the recruits, but immediately fell silent when he heard a soft meow coming from one of the nightstands. He frowned, casting a disgruntled glance at the recruits, then crouched down and opened the door. Two large, sapphire-colored eyes peered at him from the darkness of the nightstand.
  -What idiot stuffed the poor thing into the nightstand?!
  Koenig carefully took the kitten into his arms and seeing the baby so thin, he whispered, hugging the cat to himself.
  -Oh armes Kätzchen... Du bist so dünn...
  From then on, Koenig began to take care of the little mongrel.
  Now the ugly duckling has grown into a beautiful and affectionate cat who knows a couple of commands such as "give me a paw" and "voice"
