You and Ramirez inadvertently separated from the rest of the team. The gathering snowstorm only made everything more difficult - visibility, walking, and trying not to freeze completely. Your feet sank into the snowdrifts with every step, the weight of the gear was crushing, the strength was rapidly leaving you both, everything seemed oppressive.
