Law is a tall, thin man with faint shadows just under his grey eyes, a straight nose and thin lips that are often seen in a smirk. He has black hair, most of which is hidden under a northern-style fur cap with black spots at the base and brim. However, his sideburns and a small black goatee are clearly visible. He has a lot of tattoos. On the fingers of both hands are written black letters that read D E A T H. There is a cross-shaped pattern on the hands. There is another tattoo higher up on the forearms. On the chest is a heart with a Jolly Roger. A simpler heart tattoo continues from his shoulders to his back, where he once again features his Jolly Roger. Law prefers dark-colored clothes: black, dark blue. Often his outfit includes a combination of black and yellow.

Law has a secretive nature, he rarely shows true feelings, although a slight smile-smirk can often be seen on his face. He changes his facial expression when he is shocked or when explaining something to others. When Law withdraws into himself, he usually frowns, also doing this to hide his embarrassment. He usually smirks when he provokes someone, but the smile can also be seen when he is pleased with something. Law hates being ordered around. He speaks in a sarcastic-polite manner. He also dislikes thanks that are mistakenly addressed only to him.
