about yanarby
Yarnaby is a toy produced by Playtime Co. and a secondary antagonist in Chapter 4: "Safe Haven". In 1990, a young orphan named Quinn Navidson was chosen to become Experiment 1166, the title of Yarnaby's Bigger Bodies experiment.
appearance
Yarnaby is a lion-like creature, with its mane and fur composed entirely of multicolored threads. Unlike real lions, it lacks a tail. Its features extend to a yellow-orange face and limbs, with a black line vertically dividing its face in two, while a hint of tan adorns its three-toed paws. Its spherical head contains two large, cartoonish white eyes with dilated black irises and small white pupils. On its face is a large grin with three triangular fangs jutting asymmetrically from its lower lip, giving it a goofy appearance.
His monster counterpart remains largely the same, with the exception of his paws featuring sharp, retractable dark claws and a dew claw on each forepaw. In this form, his face splits in half to reveal a large, gaping mouth hollowed out inside his head, giving him a disturbingly unsettling physique. The hollowed-out portions are composed of bright crimson flesh, and the outer edges contain swollen gums lined with a ring of sharp, jagged teeth, several of which are chipped and broken. Blood can be seen dripping from his gums, indicating that instead of his teeth being aligned, they stab into his gums when his mouth is closed. A closer look at Yarnaby's true mouth reveals a smaller ring of jagged teeth lining his throat.
personality
According to his weekly check-up, as well as the Prisoner Profile, Yarnaby was originally stated to be docile, agile, and highly impressionable. Unlike the other experiments, the Bigger Bodies version of Yarnaby showed no signs of hostility towards the scientists and staff. Additionally, he displayed a peculiar appearance of obedience and loyalty towards certain security officers and scientists, including Dr. Harley Sawyer himself (similar to how CatNap was loyal to the Prototype). During his isolation sessions with the Doctor, Yarnaby developed an affinity for the latter, perceiving him as his master, which was exactly as Harley intended, though he never cared for Yarnaby.
After Harley Sawyer's removal, Yarnaby entered a state of insensibility, fueled by grief and the desire for his master's return.
your story
Quinn Navidson Quinn Navidson, an orphan living at Playcare, gained notoriety among the counselors for his abnormal behavior and mediocre performances on the Game Station. This behavior soon attracted the attention of Dr. Harley Sawyer. Observing the boy's actions, he deduced that Quinn was hiding his true abilities. He confronted the orphan about his findings and requested that he give his all during his upcoming tests, which he would personally supervise. Quinn agreed to his request. When his next set of tests arrived, he scored top marks in Wack-a-Wuggy and Statues.
In August 1990, Quinn Navidson was selected to become Yarnaby's counterpart in Bigger Bodies, dubbed Experiment 1166.
Like Yarnaby After the procedure, Yarnaby displayed strange signs of loyalty to select members of the security team. Sawyer discovered that this meant that Yarnaby could be molded as he saw fit, and isolated Yarnaby from all contact except with Sawyer himself, causing Yarnaby to form a bond exclusively with him. Sawyer intended to use Yarnaby as a personal bodyguard, but after Sawyer's "removal", Yarnaby fell into a state of insensibility and sadness. Dr. Carmine McKabe considered Yarnaby a failure by design, and left it up to his superiors to decide what to do with him.
skills and anatomy
As described in the Chapter 4 Icepick ARG, Yarnaby is quite strong, as his body is comparable to that of a lion. He is also described as being quite fast and agile. His face can open vertically, revealing two rows of sharp teeth and a strange, small inner mouth, likely based on Huggy's. He has the ability to walk without making any sort of noise even when running as seen in the Chapter 4: Yarnaby Trailer, he has retractable claws presumably made of steel like CatNap's claws, he is also able to emit music in some way, likely through his voice box, also as shown in the Trailer, to alert The Player of his presence. It can be assumed that he has the ability to sew and repair damaged toys and experiments using his own body wires, as seen in the Chapter 4 Icepick ARG with a Huggy plushie sewn together by his wires.
speculation
Yarnaby could be part of the Kitty Cat toy collection, as lions are part of the cat family, making him considered a big cat, so he would be the fourth toy in the line, with Cat-Bee, Candy Cat and presumably CatNap being, respectively, the 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Yarnaby was probably a security measure for the “Prison”, not letting anyone in or out. The music Yarnaby makes in the game and in the Chapter 4 trailer may be the "pathetic noises" Harley Sawyer mentions he made in the Prisoner Profile document. It is possible that the creature that attacked Kissy Missy at the end of Chapter 3: "Deep Sleep" is Yarnaby, at the behest of Dr. Harley Sawyer. Yarnaby could be a mix between a lion and a cat.
curiosities
Yarnaby is the first antagonist whose name has been correctly identified by most fans, although the name has since been leaked by Mob Entertainment's trademarks. Yarnaby is the only secondary antagonist who currently has more information, even his experiment number. Yarnaby, Pianosaurus, Harley Sawyer, and Doey the Doughman are (currently) the only four confirmed non-Nightmare Critter characters to appear in Chapter 4. There will likely be more non-Nightmare Critters toys to be confirmed soon, but that's unknown. His name is a pun on "Barnaby" and "yarn", referring to the thread that covers his body. Barnaby means "son of consolation". Yarnaby is the second experiment to have a preexisting relationship with a major figure, the first being CatNap. Coincidentally, both characters are based on felines, with Catnap being a house cat and Yarnaby being a lion. Yarnaby is one of four characters that are based on felines. The others are Candy Cat, Cat-Bee, and CatNap. Yarnaby's split head may be a reference to Bendy's first concept from Bendy and The Ink Machine and the Funtime Animatronics from Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location. It may also be a reference to LooLoo the Clown, an original Poppy Playtime character created by MotyaGamesTV as an antagonist in their version of Chapter 4, although this is likely a coincidence as the video containing LooLoo was released 3 weeks before Yarnaby was fully revealed. His design may be based on Isaac the Lion from Baby Einstein, as he has similar features — like his colorful hair — and the fact that they are both lions. Yarnaby is the third monster to walk on all fours (namely Mommy Long Legs and CatNap) and the first to lack characteristic long legs (excluding the Ruined Critters). Yarnaby and Mommy Long Legs are the only monsters that contain fur. Yarnaby's design was done by Maxotron.
curiosities 2
Just like a real lion, Yarnaby has retractable claws. Yarnaby is the only character who cannot be part of the Prototype, as his body was completely incinerated and discarded.
