- Map: Deeproot Depths
Deeproot Depths is an underground region of the Lands Between in Elden Ring. An enormous cavern at the roots of the Erdtree, the Deeproot Depths is the source of the Ainsel and Siofra rivers. The network of Greattree roots that spread throughout the Lands Between also begins here.[1] Below the Sites of Grace Prince of Death's Throne, a nameless Eternal City lies in ruins, with many of its buildings sinking into a mire of milky liquid. In the northwestern area, a Wandering Mausoleum prowls, surrounded by Mausoleum Soldiers and Knights. To the far west, Siluria, one of the two leaders of the Crucible Knights, awaits at the stump of a dead tree. Background The Nameless Eternal City was destroyed by Astel, Naturalborn of the Void long ago.[2][3]
After Godwyn the Golden was murdered on the Night of Black Knives, his body was buried in the Erdtree's roots.[4] His malformed body, corrupted by Death, can be found to the north of the cavern. It is here that Fia resides after fleeing Roundtable Hold. Connected areas This area can be reached by either defeating the Valiant Gargoyle duo boss in Siofra Aqueduct or by finding an illusory wall at the bottom of the Frenzied Flame Proscription, found behind a movable wall guarded by Mohg, the Omen at the bottom of the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds.
An abandoned coffin found along the southwestern shore of the shallow body of water allows travel to Ainsel River Main, the northern part of Ainsel River.

Demigod
Demigod - Overview
The Lands Between are ruled by a family of demigods, heroes with an especially powerful blessing received from the blood of Queen Marika the Eternal.[1] They are immortals due to their fated deaths being removed from the Elden Ring[2] when Queen Marika created the Golden Order by sealing the Rune of Death.[3]
During the Night of Black Knives, a fragment of the Rune of Death enabled the murder of Godwyn the Golden.[4] This was the first death of a demigod in all history,[5] and it was after this that the demigods began to fall.[6] At an unknown period, Queen Marika told her demigod children to make of themselves that which they desired, whether it be a Lord, or a God. However, she also declared that if they failed to become anything at all, they would be forsaken, and amount only to a sacrifice. These events were precursors to the shattering of the Elden Ring,[8] whereupon several of the demigods inherited Great Runes, becoming known as Shardbearers.[9] The mad taint of the strength granted by their Great Runes triggered the Shattering, a war in which the demigods fought for control of the Lands Between. However, no lord arose from the Shattering, and the demigods were abandoned by the Greater Will.[10]
Upon their return to the Lands Between, the Tarnished were impelled by the Two Fingers to seek out the demigods and relieve them of their Great Runes.[11] At least three of the demigods were slain by The Tarnished in their quest to become Elden Lord.
The Golden Lineage
The first Demigods were Godfrey, First Elden Lord and his descendants, known as the Golden Lineage.[12] The confirmed members of the Golden Lineage are Morgott, the Omen King,[13] his twin Mohg, Lord of Blood,[14] Godrick the Grafted,[15] Godefroy the Grafted,[16] and the Grafted Scions.[17] Godwyn the Golden's name, title, and the pattern on his clothing suggests his descendancy from the Golden Lineage.[18]
Godrick the Grafted was only a distant relation, his divine blood linking him to Marika sorely diluted,[19] indicating unseen generations of Golden Lineage demigods. According to Kenneth Haight, Godrick is the last of the Golden Lineage, but the Grafted Scions are also suggested to be the dregs of the Golden Lineage.[17]
When Godfrey was divested of his Grace, he became Tarnished,[20] and lost his demigod status.
Royal Family Search
Main article: Carian Royal Family After Godfrey was hounded from the Lands Between, Radagon became King Consort and second Elden Lord by marrying Queen Marika.[21] This led to the children he conceived with Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon becoming demigod stepchildren, including Starscourge Radahn,[22] Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy,[23] and Ranni the Witch.[24]
Twin Prodigies The union of Radagon and Marika led to the birth of at least two more demigods, the twins Miquella of the Haligtree and Malenia, Blade of Miquella, however they suffered afflictions from birth; the former was born with a curse of eternal childhood, and the latter harbored Scarlet Rot within.
Soulless Demigods
The Wandering Mausoleums found throughout the Lands Between cradle the corpses of soulless demigods. At least eight demigods became these soulless demigods, and at least one of them is an unwanted child of Queen Marika's.[26] They are guarded by the Mausoleum Knights, who watch over a soulless demigod until their resurrection.
Notes
According to Finger Reader Enia, the demigods are each and all the direct offspring of Queen Marika.[28] According to the Overview Trailer, the demigods are "those who have inherited the blood of Queen Marika the Eternal."[29] It is often speculated that the Kindling Maiden Melina may be a demigod, as she is called "DaughterMarika" internally and states her mother is inside the Erdtree.[30] Furthermore, she is bound by Grace,[31][32] quotes ancient words of Marika,[33] and implied to be the younger sister of Messmer the Impaler.[34][35] Like Messmer, Melina is associated with a butterfly and is fated to fulfill a purpose.

Background
Godwyn was the son of Queen Marika the Eternal and her consort and first Elden Lord, Godfrey. He was admired as a hero and champion of the Erdtree.[2] Godwyn was a scion of the Golden Lineage, of which Godrick the Grafted was a final descendant.[3]
Long ago, during the Age of the Erdtree, Leyndell was assaulted by the ancient dragon Gransax. This was the only time the walls of the royal capital had been breached, marking the beginning of the terrible War of the Ancient Dragons.[4] Godwyn was triumphant in a battle against the dreaded Fortissax and earned the mighty dragon's friendship in the process.[5] Their alliance ended the war and led to the establishment of the Ancient Dragon Cult. The cult worshiped the dragons and studied their lightning incantations. Their practices were permitted by the Golden Order as gravel stone, and lightning itself, were both imbued with gold.[7] The red-hued incantations were also taught in secret.[8][9] The ancient dragon Lansseax, sister of Fortissax, took a human form to commune with the knights as a priestess.
Death
Godwyn would eventually meet his end during the Night of Black Knives.[11] Seeking to be free from her fate as a pawn of the Greater Will, Godwyn's stepsister, Lunar Princess Ranni, stole a fragment of the Rune of Death from Maliketh. She imbued ritual daggers with the power of Death and gave them to the Black Knife Asssassins.[12] The assassins slipped into the royal capital and carved the half-wheel centipede into Godwyn's flesh as its counterpart was etched into Ranni.[1][13][14] Both demigods died simultaneously but in opposite ways. Ranni perished in body but not spirit and Godwyn's soul died while his body survived.
Erdtree Burial
Godwyn the Golden was buried at the bottom of the Erdtree's roots in the Deeproot Depths, below Leyndell,[15] but as he was lacking a soul, his body was unable to die a true death.[16] The influence of the Rune of Death seeped through the roots and sprouted Deathroot across the Lands Between, and gave rise to Those Who Live in Death.[17] Fortissax entered Godwyn's death dream to fight against the Death within Godwyn, but was ultimately corrupted by the blight.[18] As the Deathroot spread, the roots of the Erdtree were disconnected from those below.[17][19][20]
The knights of Castle Sol and Miquella worked toward achieving an eclipse they believed would restore Godwyn's soul.[21][22][23] Former members of the Dragon Cult embraced Godwyn's death and became the Death Knights.[24][25] Godwyn's downfall catalyzed the shattering of the Elden Ring and the subsequent Shattering War of the Demigods.
Prince of Death
Godwyn's living body, lacking a soul and unable to die a true death, transformed into an unrecognizable aberration known as the Prince of Death. Its form multiplied and manifested itself across the Lands Between.[26]
The Deathbed Companion Fia was the guardian of Those Who Live in Death.[27][28] If she gathers both half-wheel centipedes—one each from the bodies of Godwyn and Ranni—Fia makes her way to the Prince of Death's Throne where the body of Godwyn is immured.[29]
Fia sleeps with Godwyn to transfer to him the strength of countless heroes and grant him a second life as the Prince of Death.[30][31] As a result of their union, Fia conceived the Mending Rune of the Death-Prince. She requests it be used to mend the shattered Elden Ring and usher in an Age of the Duskborn, introducing the principle of Life within Death into the Golden Order.
Notes
The Prince of Death's Pustule and Prince of Death's Cyst feature his face multiplying.
Those Who Live in Death - Overview
Those Who Live in Death are humanoid skeletal creatures of variable height and equipment, characterized by their ability to resurrect upon initially being slain. This can be prevented by killing them with certain sources of holy damage, or by attacking their bones before they resurrect. They are commonly found in catacombs, graveyards, and around Deathroot. Those Who Live in Death are a product of the spread of Deathroot following the Night of Black Knives and the death of Godwyn the Golden,[1] and fall outside the principles of the Golden Order. It is for this reason that Golden Order fundamentalists known as hunters are tasked with exterminating them, down to the last.[2]
Those Who Live in Death are extremely weak to holy damage. They can be summoned by and occasionally found alongside Tibia Mariners.
Those Who Live in Death - Background
On the Night of Black Knives, a stolen fragment of the Rune of Death enabled the Black Knife Assassins to murder Godwyn the Golden, which marked the first death of a demigod in history.[3] However, Ranni the Witch, a co-conspirator of the assassins, perished at the same moment by carving the cursemark of Destined Death,[4] also known as the mark of the centipede,[5] into her flesh. This resulted in the cursemark, which should have taken the shape of a circle, splitting into two half-wheel wounds, in turn allowing Ranni's body to perish, while Godwyn died in soul alone.[6] Ranni lingered on as a spirit, while Godwyn was unable to die a true death,[7] and instead continued to live within death, without a soul, becoming known as the Prince of Death. As the first dead of the demigods, Godwyn was buried under the capital, at the Erdtree's roots.[9] After the night of the dire plot, the Rune of Death spread across the Lands Between through the underground great tree roots, sprouting in the form of Deathroot,[3] a source that causes those who come into contact with it to become Those Who Live in Death.[10] Those Who Live in Death have refused the call to return to the Erdtree,[11] and trespass beyond life's bounds.[12] It is for this reason that they exist outside the principles of the Golden Order, and hunters among the Golden Order fundamentalists arose to exterminate defiled reason—all for the perfection of the Order.[13] In turn, Maliketh, the Black Blade, from whom the fragment of the Rune of Death was stolen, took on the guise of Gurranq, the Beast Clergyman, and consumed Deathroot gathered for him by hunters in order to sate his appetite.
Those Who Live in Death - Background
Despite the distaste for Those Who Live in Death, some of the Tarnished sympathized with them upon their return to the Lands Between, including Fia, Deathbed Companion, Lionel the Lionhearted,[15] and Sorcerer Rogier. According to Rogier, Those Who Live in Death have committed no offense, have every right to life, and have simply touched upon a flaw in the Order. During the time of The Tarnished (Protagonist), D, Hunter of the Dead discovered the mark of the centipede in Summonwater Village, in Limgrave,[17] and brought it back to the Roundtable Hold. He was later murdered by Fia, who wished to return the cursemark, also known as the hallowbrand, to Godwyn.[18] When tracked down to the Deeproot Depths, Fia reveals that she was the companion of Godwyn, the Prince of Death, and wished to be a mother and guardian to Those Who Live in Death. Upon giving her the Cursemark of Death obtained from Ranni's corpse, Fia claims it will allow Godwyn to claim a second illustrious life and take his rightful place as the First of the Dead.[21] She will lay with Godwyn in order to conceive a child that will serve as the new life of Godwyn, that will take the form of the rune of Those Who Live in Death.[22] Fia asks The Tarnished (Protagonist) to brandish her child and become their Elden Lord by staying the persecution of Those Who Live in Death.[23] Embedding the Mending Rune of the Death-Prince into the Elden Ring, it will restore Death and embed the principle of life within Death into the Order.
Ancient Dragon Cult - Overview
The ancient dragon cult is devoted to the worship of the ancient dragons. The religion plays a deep, long-standing role in the history of the Beastmen of Farum Azula, while its practice amongst humans was established more recently. The cult was based in Leyndell, Royal Capital, and championed by Godwyn the Golden in collaboration with Ancient Dragon Lansseax and Dread Fortissax after the conclusion of the war between Leyndell and the Ancient Dragons. Its equipment and incantations heavily base themselves on the Ancient Dragons and emulate their ability to conjure lightning.
Ancient Dragon Cult - Background
After Lord Godfrey was banished from the Lands Between, the gold-worshipping capital of Leyndell was attacked by a legion of Ancient Dragons, led by the colossal Ancient Dragon Gransax. Gransax's assault would be the only time in the historical record that Leyndell's walls had fallen and marked the dawn of the war against the ancient dragons.[1]
This brutal war ended with the death of Gransax and Godwyn's triumph over and immediate peacemaking with Dread Fortissax, with Godwyn arguing that the worshipping of the ancient dragons did not clash with belief in the Erdtree, as the very scales of the ancient dragons, and lightning itself, were both imbued with gold.[2] The implementation of the faith in Leyndell would be supported largely by Lansseax, who would assume the form of a humanoid priestess and teach the blessings of the Ancient Dragons to Leyndell's inhabitants, with their lightning becoming a significant addition to the arsenal of its military.
Lichdragon Fortissax
Fortissax is an Ancient Dragon who was once known as the "mightiest boulderstone", known for its use of twin red lightning stakes[1], and the sibling of Ancient Dragon Lansseax.[2]
During the Age of the Erdtree, the Ancient Dragons warred against the forces of Leyndell, after an assault on the royal capital by the great Ancient Dragon Gransax.[3] Fortissax was challenged by Godwyn the Golden, who fought to the last[4]. Godwyn defeated Fortissax, but he befriended his fallen foe, and their bond gave rise to the Ancient Dragon Cult of the Royal Capital.[5] Through this friendship, Godwyn gained the ability to wield golden lightning, while the dragons gained acceptance as part of the Golden Order. On the Night of Black Knives, Godwyn was slain by assassins.[7] Godwyn would die in soul alone, with his body condemned to undeath, as it mutated beyond recognition.[8] Fortissax fought long and hard against the death within its companion, becoming corrupted by death in the process.[9] The Lichdragon is encountered within the Deathbed Dream after securing the Cursemark of Death and giving it to Fia, another companion of Godwyn's. Following Fortissax's defeat, Fia gestates the Mending Rune of the Death-Prince, which may usher in an age of death restored. As well as being able to breathe fire like other Ancient Dragons, Fortissax possesses the ability to summon a storm of gold and black lightning bolts which cover a wide area and inflict Death Blight. It can also summon a bolt of red lightning, which it slams into the ground, releasing waves of red lightning in multiple directions. After its health has been reduced to 60%, it gains the ability to summon two lightning spears at once, as well as a divebomb ability which is followed by a spinning attack using a lightning glaive.
Golden Lineage
After their victory against the giants and the Sealing of Destined Death, the fate of the Erdtree and the Golden Order was considered secured and thus the Elden Lord, Godfrey and God-Queen, Marika established a royal lineage with their first demigod children together, with Beast Regent, Serosh and his counseling serving as a guide for the generations to come. Before long, Godfrey continued on his campaign to expand the Golden Order's influence and rule and strengthening his reputation as the Lord of the Battlefield,[2] a reputation that would be quickly followed up in modest by their immediate children, but became a suffocating shadow that would progressively tower higher and higher over his later descendants. The immediate descendants of their family's founders, these children would be the first to carry the unified blood of both Godfrey and Marika.
Many of these individuals would go on to make their names known, forging their own stories and pursue their own goals, fueled by their own convictions. Indeed these apples did truly not fall far from their tree. Unlike the first generation after Godfrey, many of the later descendants would become obsessed with their pedigree and status as a reputable, important bloodline. Continuously riding the glory of their founding father's accomplishments while progressively becoming less and less comparable to his greatness with each passing generation. The current-day dregs of the golden lineage would go desperately searching for power and purpose in the past.[3] Excavating for ancient relics and surrounding themselves with artifacts of a golden era, an era they played no part in and had long since passed.
Godwyn the Golden MBTI
About Godwyn the Golden: Godwyn was one of Queen Marika's sons and a legendary hero in the Between Lands. He was known for his bravery, his charisma, and his crucial role in the war against the Ancient Dragons. His legacy suggests that he was an inspiring and respected figure, which fits with some traits of an ENFJ (Extraverted, Intuitive, Emotional, Judgmental). Possible ENFJ traits in Godwyn: Extraversion (E): Godwyn appears to have been a public and charismatic figure, suggesting that he was an extrovert. His leadership in war and his ability to rally others to his cause support this idea. Intuition (N): As a visionary leader, Godwyn likely had a broad and strategic perspective, focusing on the future and larger ideals (such as the peace or prosperity of the Middle Lands). Emotional (F): His connection with other characters and his role as an inspirational figure suggest that he prioritized relationships and emotions. Furthermore, his tragic fate could indicate that he was acting motivated by personal values and not just logic. Judicious (J): Godwyn appears to have been an organized and determined leader, capable of making firm decisions at critical moments, such as during the war against the Dragons. Why ENFJ Might Fit: ENFJs are known for being charismatic and selfless leaders, seeking to inspire and guide others toward the greater good. Godwyn, as a beloved and respected hero, fits this profile. His tragic fate (being betrayed and becoming a dark figure) also reflects the darker side of ENFJs, who can sacrifice too much for others or be deeply affected by betrayals.
Godwyn the Golden Enneagram
Enneagram Type 9: The Peacemaker: Type 9s are known for their desire to maintain peace, avoid conflict, and seek harmony in their environment. Godwyn, as a beloved and respected leader, could represent this search for balance in the Middle Lands. Their role in the war against the Elder Dragons does not necessarily contradict this, as the Nines can act firmly when necessary to protect what they value (in this case, the stability of their world). Furthermore, his tragic fate (being betrayed and becoming a dark figure) could reflect the more passive side of Type 9, which sometimes avoids facing problems directly, leading to unintended consequences. Wing 1: The Perfectionist: Wing 1 adds a sense of idealism and morality to Type 9. Godwyn could have been a figure who sought not only peace, but also a just and correct order in the Between Lands. This wing could also explain his role as an exemplary and respected leader, as 1w9s tend to be seen as figures of integrity and ethics. However, Wing 1 can also lead to some rigidity or frustration when things don't go as expected, which could relate to its tragic end. Why does 9w1 fit Godwyn? Search for Harmony: Godwyn appears to have been a figure who sought to unite the Middle Lands and maintain peace, even in times of war. Idealism and morality: His role as a hero and his legacy suggest that he acted guided by a sense of what was right and just, something very typical of the 1st wing. Passivity and Tragedy: Their tragic fate could reflect the Type 9's tendency to avoid conflict or fail to act in time, leading to devastating consequences. In short, 9w1 is a very good choice for Godwyn the Golden, combining his desire for peace and harmony with a sense of idealism and morality.
The Enneagram type 9w1
The Enneagram type 9w1 is a personality type that combines traits of the type 9 and type 1. People with this type are often called "The Dreamer" or "The Negotiator". They are known for being peaceful, creative, and hardworking, and for their ability to mediate conflicts. Traits Peaceful: They have a strong desire for inner and outer peace. Idealistic: They are more serious and idealistic than other nines. Creative: They are creative and tend to escape into their imagination. Hardworking: They are hardworking and generally more diligent than other nines. Friendly: They are friendly and modest. Open-minded: They are open-minded and use their modesty to foster understanding. Motivations Peace: They strive to achieve peace, both internally and externally. Truth: They have a deeper desire to improve the lives of others through truth and objectivity. Ethics: They have assertive views on right and wrong. Common jobs nurse, veterinarian, religious worker, and human resources manager.
The MBTI type ENFJ
ENFJs are people-oriented, warm, and supportive individuals who are often natural leaders. They are also known as "The Protagonist" or "The Intuitive Protagonist". Characteristics Extroverted: ENFJs are social and enjoy spending time with others. Intuitive: ENFJs are good at analyzing complex ideas and trust their intuition. Feeling: ENFJs are motivated by feelings and values. Judging: ENFJs are organized and prefer to follow a plan. Strengths Great people skills: ENFJs are good at encouraging others and bringing people together. Inspiring: ENFJs can motivate and inspire others with their passion and charisma. Hopeful: ENFJs can remain hopeful in the face of difficulties. Careers Teaching: ENFJs are good at teaching and counseling because of their communication skills and understanding of others' views. Coaching: ENFJs can be great coaches because of their passion and charisma. Politics: ENFJs can be natural leaders and can be found among many notable politicians.
