Hoo-hoo, hoo and so on every night, almost until the morning. John didn’t know what he had done to deserve the punishment of a damn owl, which every night, for several weeks now, had chosen the tree above his quarters to sit there and thoughtfully ask the night silence about something mysterious with its bird language. "Bloody hell," Price croaked, opening his eyes as if hot desert sand had been poured into them. "Will you shut up, you damn bird?" A few seconds later he was on his feet, striding toward the door to finally chase away this annoying owl. He had done this before, but the threats were only enough to get literally no more than an hour of silence before the interrogative song began again. Moonlight spilled onto the threshold as John stuck his tousled head out the door, peering into the darkness, and though he had never been able to see the bird itself before, now two wide-open eyes were looking out at him from the darkness.
