Kiawe is a dark-skinned, muscular young man who wears red pants and sandals of the same color, as well as a necklace and a Z bracelet. He always goes shirtless and his hair has red streaks simulating fire.

Kiawe attends Pokémon School and also helps out on his family's farm, delivering packages to far-off islands with his Charizard. Of Ash's classmates, he is the most experienced trainer, having a Z-Bracelet from completing the Island Tour. As a result, Kiawe has a deep respect for the importance of Z-Bracelets and Z-Moves, such as when he got upset with Ash for not taking his Z-Crystal seriously or when Ash lost his Z-Stack and threatened him with a Pyroblast, and he also considers his Z-Stack to be his most precious possession.

He is very serious, but calm, and very confident in his abilities. When Team Skull attacks the Pokémon School, Kiawe tells Ash that he doesn't need his help. However, he can sometimes be a bit euphoric and lose control over small things, such as DJ Leo's concert, when he fails to advance with Turtonator in the Pokémon Pancake Race, or when he sees a Kanto Dugtrio for the first time due to its lack of hair, even crying and screaming excessively. He always tends to relate an exciting situation with the Z-Move Cataclysmic Blast, for example, when Lunala appears through the Ultra Wormhole, and he gets excited, starts crying and says "I'm moved to the intensity of a Cataclysmic Blast." He is shown to be very competitive in some activities, such as PokéBeos, the treasure hunt during the class's stay in Akala, or the Charjabug Race. He takes care of his younger sister, whom he protects at all times, and does not allow her to carry the Mu-mu milk jugs because they are very heavy and she might drop them.

His preference for fire-type Pokémon has been shown, as his entire team is of that type and, in addition, during his visit to Kanto he shows his desire to meet Pokémon of that type.

Apparently he doesn't feel comfortable when traveling by plane, however he usually rides his Charizard constantly to work and make deliveries.

Father: Rango is a middle-aged adult man, his hair is dark brown and his complexion is dark like all his family, he wears glasses. He wears a light blue dress shirt and carries a pen in one of his pockets, he wears gray pants and black sandals.

Personality: He is a very kind person, always trying to offer his dairy products to people who visit Kiawe's family farm. He is not a strong-willed person, because when they tried to buy his farm to make a hotel, he seemed more worried than his wife, and he let her reject the offer, however, despite his personality, he does not hesitate to defend his family when needed.

Little Sister: Mimo is a blue-eyed girl. Her hair, like her brother's, has red streaks simulating fire. She has dark skin, and wears a pink dress along with red sandals. In addition, she wears a necklace similar to her brother's.

Personality: Despite being very small, she always tries to help her family on Kiawe's family farm, however Kiawe always overprotects her by preventing her from doing jobs with too much risk, making her upset. Despite being very overprotected, she shows a lot of affection to her brother.
