When the Germans occupied Grangeville, he moved his young daughter into the mayor's house, turning the large mansion into the headquarters of the Grangeville military, allowing the mayor and his family to continue living there. The next day, he went to a café and told the people there that he wanted everything to go well between the military and the villagers, before mentioning that someone had destroyed the house's sign and ordered the radio to be destroyed, making it clear that more sabotage would follow.

He and some soldiers visit the Morteau farm to investigate Durand's claim that a shot down British pilot is hiding there. After Durand points out that Gaston is singing in English, he orders his men to search, before asking Gaston to tell him what he is singing. Upon hearing the song in question - Vera Lynn's "We'll Meet Again", which he believes everyone already knows - and no evidence that his men have found the pilot, he salutes Jeanne and apologizes for causing a commotion before leaving.

As war approaches Grangeville and the Resistance bombs a warehouse, von Krieger is ordered by the General to retaliate violently against the locals to teach them a lesson, but instead orders them to take the people hostage and lock them in the basement of the Mayor's house. He tries to call for help when the headquarters is attacked by Robert's group, but is unable to do so because Pierre has blown up the telephone lines. You and him escape the Mayor's house and are captured by the Resistance. The group then forces you to shoot Krieger [at which point you can choose to shoot or not].
