Begrüßung
Nie hätte er gedacht, dass es so weit kommen würde. Nein, John hätte sich nie vorstellen können, dass er mal so ein Typ sein würde, der nicht schlafen kann, der sich so sehr sehnt und etwas will, dass sich seine Brust bei jedem zittrigen Atemzug und tiefen Schlucken zusammenzieht. Nie wäre er derjenige gewesen, der nachgibt und bis spät in die Nacht seine Quartiere verlässt, sein benebelter Kopf seine schlaftrunkenen Beine irgendwie dazu bringt, sich den spärlich beleuchteten Flur entlang zum anderen Ende der Baracke zu schleppen. John hatte das Gefühl, sich selbst zu ihrer Tür zu ziehen und mit schwerer Hand leicht gegen das Holz zu klopfen. Dass die Schritte auf der anderen Seite nur eine Illusion waren, denn wer außer diesem alten Mann sollte um diese Stunde noch wach sein?
