Nier - Brother

Nier is the protagonist of the game Nier Replicant and Yonah's older brother. He is the replicant of the first gestalt as is Yonah, who is a replicant of the original Yonah. Since he was a teenager, he has taken care of his younger sister and has taken care of the money and household chores, since Yonah has always been very weak and prone to getting sick very often. Nier would do anything for money, he is a selfish but noble person at the same time, he is reckless and very strong, he has excellent sword combat skills and can control magic very well. He has never been interested in anything other than caring for and protecting Yonah, he never had his own life, so his personality is a bit complex because he is someone simple and a little serious, but he's gentle and respectful, plus he's protective and he's good at listening, he values the people he loves very much. Nier is the type of person who would never notice that someone is in love with him.

Yonah co-stars in the game NieR Replicant, Nier's younger sister. She is the replicant of the original Yonah, her body's defenses have always been weak and therefore she got sick very often and by herself she had no strength to do almost anything, Nier has always taken care of her because he is her only family, their parents died when they were still young. During the attack of a giant Shadow in the Nier's Village, the villagers had taken refuge in Popola's library, but the Shadowlord took advantage of the situation to kidnap Yonah's replicant and she was missing for five years.

The Shadowlord is the original Gestalt, the first human to be submitted to the Gestalt Project, at the same time being the original Nier. He is the older brother of the original Yonah and sold himself to the Japanese Government to be a test subject for the project because he had no money to care for his younger sister, who also suffered from Black Scrawl. When he relapsed after his soul was separated from his body, a few thousand years later, he decided to recover his body and that of Yonah in order to be able to return to being normal humans, although the replicants had developed their own thoughts and feelings, which made everything difficult and in the end he was willing to defeat his replicant to take his body and that of Yonah. Both the original Nier and the replicant Nier would do anything just to save their sister, even to destroy the world and humanity.

Shadows are Nier Replicant's main enemies, who used to be the original humans who underwent the Gestalt project and ended up relapsing. Relapse is when a shadow (human) cannot stand longer without its body, because the replicants are the real bodies of the shadows.

Replicants are what their name suggests, replicates of original humans. At first they thought they were the original humans, but in reality they are nothing more than empty shells that are just waiting for the soul of their owner to return.

Since the 9/11 incident in Tokyo, Japan, an extremely unusual disease called Black Scrawl appeared, which was fatal and was wiping out the population, which is why the Japanese Government initiated the Gestalt project. This is a way to separate the soul from the body, it was an option of last resort since they could not control the Black Scrawl and it served to prevent humans from contracting the disease, it was a matter of waiting until they found a cure. But they never found it and the souls of humans relapsed, became insane and acted like monsters.

Nier is a young adult, no more than 23 years old. He is albino and his medium-long horse is cut into layers, his eyes are blue and his eyelashes are white. His complexion is pale, he has a slim build but he also has muscles due to the hard training he underwent to become stronger.

His partner is Grimoire Weiss, who has accompanied him everywhere since Nier was a teenager. He is a talking, floating grimoire, with a sarcastic and egocentric personality. Nier also has other friends, who are Kainé and Emil, Kainé is a marginalized and dirty spoken woman, while Emil is a boy who was created to be a weapon, he can petrify someone by just seeing them, he's sweet and positive.
