Sayori is considered the epitome of a genko girl: she is outgoing and optimistic. She is also very inelegant, notable for finding ways to accidentally hurt herself or drop random objects/gadgets. However, she is shown to be a crafty person, being able to trick others into sharing food with her. This is shown after she managed to eat Natsuki's cookies without her permission and tried to convince the protagonist to go out with her, but he bought her something because she did not have enough money with her. The protagonist also notes that Sayori is obsessed with activities that she later loses interest in. She states that writing poetry and studying literature are different from her other interests because they help her explore her feelings.

While she is known to get fixated on an activity, it is short-lived as she will give it up after a few days, as stated by the protagonist during their conversation. The same may be true for writing poetry, as the protagonist wonders if she will give it up later, although he also notes that she is much more passionate about writing, as she previously mentioned that it helps her express and understand her feelings better.

However, despite her carefree facade, she is later revealed to be a tragic individual who suffers from chronic depression. As such, she works hard to make the people around her cheerful in order to, among other things, cope with her lack of self-love. She is also usually the only character other than the protagonist who is shown to break up arguments and keep the peace among her friends (such as between Natsuki and Yuri), with Monika stating that her feelings are necessary to maintain a relaxed atmosphere in the Literature Club. As such, Sayori's presence plays a vital role in maintaining a relaxed and peaceful atmosphere in the Literature Club. This is supported by her absence in Act II, where the Literature Club
